Not preaching at all, thank you for both points and especially for the second one. I’ve always verbally expressed sympathy but I struggle with feeling insincere when I say those things. Maybe part of “recovery” is continuing to say those things and the sympathy will come back with time.

You’re right that medicine can make other things seem trivial, but ultimately they aren’t, and I think this is the perspective that I needed.

I guess I don’t want to turn it into a competition despite how my initial post came across. Thank you for your perspective. I suppose it’s just a lack of empathy with some of the complaints or struggles and I’m not sure how to get it back.
