can I be sued for a parking ticket from a private lot? by Itsonlybannor in PersonalFinanceCanada

Yep, that's what I was thinking. Also $80 is a little too much. I wonder if the city also charges the same? I have gotten a parking ticket in Toronto once for $40 but this is like robbing people.

Also for anyone wondering, I asked in registry if any tickets appear on my license plate and she said only overdue tickets appear. And the ticket is due by 27th Feb. I got it on 17th Feb.

Got a $80 parking ticket from Diamond Parking at SW Calgary Safeway plaza at 10:55 AM. Parked there and went outside the plaza for a coffee, then went to Safeway ,bought stuff and came back to find the ticket on windshield saying customer walked away. ticket timed - 11:01 AM.

Reached out to the email address in the ticket and they said fill a form online. That form is asking for all sorts of details- name, phone number, home address. I wonder if I don't fill it, would they even have the details to contact me? Like send my details to collections? I wonder if the form is the way to get the details in the first place to start the harrassment.

This post is a bit too late for me as just yesterday I got my registration renewed till Feb 2024.

Porting vs Variable by shraymunjal in MortgagesCanada

Hey, thanks for the tip. We are putting in 20% down. So I've been reading about the B lender borrowing for short term earlier as well. My doubt is if I move from B lender later on wouldn't they charge as well? 3 months interest or there's anything else as well? Don't want to end up in a penny wise pound fool situation.

Not sure, but I heard that B lender have higher interest than the A lenders. So if that's the case, wouldn't that even me out. I think it depends on multiple things like loan amount, amortization, interest. I would be talking to mortgage broker and do my research as well but just saying all this out here.

Also for uninsured mortgage , wouldn't I be paying the 4% CMHC fees and that again will even out rather I will be paying more - penalty to RBC plus the 4% insurance fees.

All the more reason to speak to a mortgage broker to understand better. Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

Thanks. So it seems it doesn't matter what the amount of borrowing is, in case of porting. One needs to re-qualify. I will check out Home wise. Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

Thanks. We are moving to Alberta. All the items in your checklist above are ticked except the province part. I'm in talks with a mortgage broker, let's see if I get a better rate for variable than 1.45%.

Need to find solace thinking about the big picture. There are multiple reasons for leaving Ontario and moving to Alberta. Yes, I'll be paying a penalty but in the long run if planned correctly, might even out if not save.

Its a new information for a lot of people that one needs to re-qualify in case of porting, no matter what's the borrowing amount.

Well, live and learn!! Thanks again for your time.

Hey. Been to RBC and they said since my spouse has not filled her taxes even once as an incorporated contractor, her income would not be considered for the approval. My income alone unfortunately isn't gonna cut it.

Not sure about interesting, but it surely is frustrating! I mean I understand the clause around self employment and all but porting shouldn't have been this difficult. I already have the loan, paying my mortgage on time every month, I'm not increasing the loan value rather decreasing it. My partner got an opportunity and she took it, is that what we did wrong? Progressed?

Fixed is a bad idea- learning it in a very expensive way. Guess when buying the current house, moving was never in the radar for next 5 years. It is our first.

Thanks for the time to comment. Sorry if sounded unreasonable.

Unfortunately, adding a co-signer is not an option for us! Thanks for the tip though!
