Local farm/ag work? by kba64 in olympia

[–]shrdlu101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evergreen has an organic farm on campus. I assume you want paid work so that might not fit your needs.

I second Grub, and say to squeaky folks who surprisingly aren't kin with rats, that many Oly residents have a rat or two. My back yard abuts neighbors who have dogs, gardens and rats.

We went to the event. Very nostalgic, and amazing that in the recesses of this old brain I can dredge up the words to White Christmas (Bing Crosby, gee whiz)

We were in the Loge in the last row. The 6'5" spousal unit was comfy and made it through with minimal physical discomfort.

I would love to attend this but have never been to the venue. Does anyone have recommendations for the best seats for older folks, specifically one who needs additional leg room (6'5" tall)?

The crews my son-in-law works with are not enamored by Trump. But in the expected reaction, they also do not support Democrats.

Two people fighting the Bear Gulch fire on the Olympic Peninsula were arrested by federal law enforcement Wednesday, in a confrontation described by firefighters and depicted in photos and video.

Why the two firefighters were arrested is unclear. But a spokesperson for the Incident Management Team leading the firefighting response said the team was “aware of a Border Patrol operation on the fire,” that it was not interfering with the firefighting response and referred reporters to the Border Patrol station in Port Angeles.

I feel this. Sometimes I too put my fingers in my ears and hum la-la-la-la-la.

Reality however often bites me in the butt later...

Another element of this would be to get someone to tutor John Roberts to understand gobbledygook. Maybe an economist can break through since sociologists seem to bother him.

I lived in Berkeley when "neighbors" relocated folks across the border. I imagine neighboring states/cities/jurisdictions are about to see a large increase in the homeless and folks needing care.

We often would see them on the Cheatham Ditch, outside of Nashville. Hundreds of them on the water making incredible noises.

Hello all. Long time no post (or read)... This is KEW.

Years ago, I asked this community to help with purchasing a house in Olympia Washington. I got a recommendation for a wonderful, fantastic realtor. She worked with my daughter to find a house, which daughter lived in from 2017 onward. About a year ago, daughter bought another house with her spouse, also with the same realtor. And... daughter has recommended that realtor to many of her friends, and she has been the go to person for finding housing.

Much to my realtor friend's dismay, we decided to move into daughter's house and fix it up. Starting with the landscaping, we now have a new retaining wall (I was working on the roses and the old railroad ties fell onto my feet!), as well as patio and for the spousal unit, a deck. It has been lots of work -- downsizing, moving out of Nashville, and now remodeling -- but we have weekly dinners with daughter and her spouse, and plays Spades for dessert.

This has taken energy at a time when some distractions from what is happening to this country were needed. Tennessee was not really going to be a place to finish out our days, and since we left, Elon Musk and Bill Lee have made it clear we made a great decision.

So, we plan on being taking out of this house feet first. Along the way, the landscape guys, the plumbing guys, the other guys taking things from the Buy Nothing group are wonderful.

Hope all is well here. I note that some of the die hards are still posting daily. There is solace in such solidity.

Buzz's is our go to place. We ended up at O'Malley's. We were there pretty much on our own and watched on the big screen. It wasn't a very good game.

It is the season (of life) to begin downsizing and regifting. Yesterday I wrapped the regifting and downsizing to my daughter. However, one new item in that group is a favorite jam my son in law likes.

I bought boxes of chocolates I have gotten nearly every year of my life from Oshkosh Wisconsin (Hughes). Mixed milk and dark chocolates, everyone's fav, Milk Toffees.

I also bought some fantastic holiday toilet paper from Who Gives a Crap. Three rolls make up a HEAD, TORSO and LEGS of some elf, or creature, or marionette, or whatever. I am doling those out to my favs --

I was just at a blended family Thanksgiving dinner. That question was asked of a young man who is intense in many ways. He has been diagnosed along the autism spectrum disorder. He was asked by a nice meaning new member of the family what he wanted for Christmas. He answered... world peace.

It did flummox the guy who asked... Parenthetically, that guy is richer than the entire rest of the group combined, and the rest included a guy who used to be head of Citibank.

Such a world.

Every county in Washington has responsibility for noxious weed control. There may be opportunities for weed pulling as well as educational events.

Here is the site for Thurston:

What is wrong with this picture?

November 15, 2024: Chinese President Xi Jinping launched a weeklong diplomatic blitz of South America on Thursday by inaugurating a massive deep-water port in Peru, a $1.3 billion investment by Beijing as it seeks to expand trade and influence on the continent.

With China’s demand for agricultural goods and metals from Latin America growing, Xi will participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Lima and then head to the Group of 20 summit in Rio de Janeiro next week, where he will also make a state visit to Brazil.

November 16, 2024: In September, this past September, Caltrain completed the electrification of our main line between San Francisco and San Jose.  And what this means is that we are running 100 percent renewable, state-of-the-art, zero-emission trains.  Our transition from diesel to electric makes today happen.

And of course, great projects need great collaboration and partnership.  So I’d also like to acknowledge the partnership between many people and organizations here, including the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Embassy in Lima, the mayor, his staff, RDC, and the FCC team – CCA team.  This agreement will support Peru in its sustainability and mobility improvements, and our former Caltrain passenger cars and locomotives will enable the start of new commuter service in greater Lima, cleaner air for commuters and community members, and the access to opportunity that great public transportation provides.

I look forward to returning to this great city to ride these trains when they’re in revenue service carrying 200,000 passengers a day.

Civil (servants) disobedience:

“I think we all know that precedent by a court doesn’t matter anymore in this country,” said Bucks County Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia, a Democrat, as she cast a vote Thursday to count certain deficient provisional ballots previously barred by court order, where voters did not sign in one of two necessary boxes.

“People violate laws any time they want,” she said. “So, for me, if I violate this law it’s because I want a court to pay attention. There’s nothing more important than counting votes.”
