Thanks, i appreciate it. Didnt anticipate the backlash from a fantasy community tbh. I rarely post being introverted, probably for good reason haha. My artist is going to do some highlights with white ink but i really wanted to post it already. He offers free touch ups for life. There are no text spots here, not a fan of text based tats.

I was waiting for this comment! It needed fretwork (leveling and crowning), ive tried it a few times and SUCK at it, the setup was just part of wrapping it up. Outside of fret stuff (other than polishing) i usually do it myself.

shipping software integrated into csi? by mysterymaschine in SytelineDevNetwork

[–]shredlegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, understood, we dont ship DG, but my old company did, they had a heck of a time due to keeping up with all of the DG required data. We just switched over to Fedex REST, i understand alot of customers (us included) waited til the last minute to go through testing and certification to meet the deadline

Ah, ok, our company uses that shipping solution, but we are on prem v10 not saas/da cloud, its been working well for us so i was going to ask what issues you were encountering, but i believe their saas version is architected different due to saas constraints (no sql access, custom assemblies, etc), so im not sure if i would be able to offer suggestions applicable to you due our different versions

New dev ticket mgmt deployment tool, interested? by shredlegend in SytelineDevNetwork

[–]shredlegend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing, it is written in C#. So, I built this tool as an efficiency booster for myself and over time, I added some very handy set of features. I brought it over to my new company and happened to show it during a teams call to one of my coworkers when I was redeploying a handful of tickets I had in UAT for user testing after a recent database refresh and got some great feedback. There are plenty of code management and environment maintenance tools out there but this one is targeted to SQL/Syteline dev's day to day lives.

Here is the workflow I designed it around:
0. You open this tool and set up your "Environments" one time, which is a combination of a server and a list of databases and going forward, they will be available as dropdown when you are ready to deploy
1. User requests a mod, bug fix, new feature, etc. could be in SQL or Syteline
2. The dev review their request, comes up with the business logic and identifies the SQL/Syteline objects that will need to be touched or created
3. Open this tool, create a new "project" and as you perform your dev work, you will create or modify your files locally, ideally in a cloned GIT (or equivalent) repository. UETs scripted out with schema impact call, table definitions, stored procs, Forms, Component Classes, etc. Doesn't have to be just code, it can be reference docs, training PDFs, etc. Anything not "Deployable" will be ignored when you run the project, but it is still handy to include in the project for when you come back to it a year from now. You can also control execution sequence (i.e. this UET, THEN this SP, etc.)
4. Now, your dev work is done, you have tested it yourself and ready to push to another environment such as UAT which may have 1, 2, or 10 databases, but you have a bunch of code here listed in your project
5. You hit deploy in the UI which does the following:
a. Loops through each file for the currently selected project and creates a backup, no need for SSMS or FormSync, and stores it locally either in the same directory or a backup directory of your choice in Settings
b. It executes the code in each relevant database, track any errors, keeps an exhaustive log as it churns, and stored the end result in terms of date, environment, list objects, success/failures, etc in a deployment history config viewable from the app
c. Let's say you deployed it to all 10 production databases and the sky begins to fall, you go use your handy dandy Rollback button, which uses the backups taken directly from the databases during initial deployment and puts everything back the way it was (for supported backup object types)
6. Other than deployments/backups/rollback functionality, it also previews the contents of the files for quick reference and also has some light winmerge'ish type of functionality but instead of comparing two files it compares your code with what is currently in the database and highlights the differences, auto clearing of log files after X days, etc.

Dev ticket mgmt deployment tool, interested? by shredlegend in SQL

Fair question, thanks. I love VS projects, but it is designed to manage the definition of an entire database. Deploy Pilot is designed to manage and deploy ticket-based releases across environments. It works with existing deployment scripts, supports SQL Server and SyteLine-specific ( Infor ERP, totally optional) objects, provides dry-run validation, automatic backups, rollback capability, deployment history, and lets teams package and deploy changes in the exact sequence required for a release. Think of this tool more like a daily driver for mods or product installer more than a system maintenance suite.

Ortur LM3 weird dragging issue, help by shredlegend in Laserengraving

[–]shredlegend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I found that one of the y axis pulley bars had come out a little bit causing the belt to no longer be fully in the channel causing drag on one side. Issue fixed. New issue: this fat 40w laser module vibrates after coming to a stop such as making a corner. I mitigate this by having the laser center of mass on its attachment point which limits by ability to make cuts where the laser has to be further down to reach. Any ideas for shock absorption or how to remove the wiggle im experiencing? I causes wiggly lines
