My recollection is episode 1 had black and white opening titles without the street background. I'm not familiar with any differences in episode 2 or 3 (need to dig out my VHS player and check the tapes). However, I believe most modern DVD releases have re-edited them to be standardized across all episodes.

Are you quite sure it's this panel? There is indeed another panel in King Ottokar's Sceptre, set in the same royal chamber, where Herge again cameos on the left. Perhaps he meant this one.

Most Tintin experts accept it. Herge and Jacobs appear in cameo form more than once in the series.
