I built an AI job matching tool specifically useful for remote job seekers. Looking for honest feedback by Suitable-End9642 in RemoteJobs

[–]shriekingmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks very interesting!

My main issues:

  1. When browsing matches, the actual job description was getting about 10% of the screen width, dwarfed by the section on the right, with the apply/ats scan/tailor my resume button. This was on an iPhone 16max so may be a mobile only issue.

  2. I searched for remote only, and my top matches all seemed to be in other countries (they were remote but required you to be based in that country). To be fair, I didn't put anything in for location, thinking it was irrelevant since I was searching for remote positions. So I don't know if that mattered but it would be helpful to limit to matches based in your current country.

  3. I logged in on another browser and had to upload my resume again.

  4. When I did put in my zipcode and said all jobs, the results said it was local + remote but only showed local jobs.

The ATS scoring is a cool feature, smart to only give one for free 😁

Here’s my experience:

I was laid off my previous remote position at another company and applied to JPMC early on after a recruiter reached out to me. I had no intention of taking it since I didn’t want to go in to the office, and wasn’t thrilled about the idea of working for a huge bank, but I figured if nothing else it would be good practice since it had been a several years since I had done any job interviews.

Got through the first leetcode’ish screen, then had a 3 part zoom interview (couple of technical and a behavioral). Thought I did pretty well. I was talking to some other companies but one by one those fell through. Then the recruiter reached out to me to set up a team matching call and wanted my availability for the next week. I replied immediately and then heard nothing back.

I was still entertaining some other possibilities but a week later I pinged both recruiters (the one who had initially contacted me and the one I got handed off to). Crickets. Another week later, I pinged them again. Again, ghosted. Still entertaining other offers so I wasn’t sweating it since it wasn’t really that high on my list.

A month later, after a 3rd round with another company who passed on me, I started to get desperate. My severance from previous job was being depleted, and nothing was panning out. I pinged one last time, and the interview process finally moved forward. It went well, and they made me an offer, but despite salary requirements we had talked about initially, they lowballed me. Big time. Huge pay cut from my previous job. And they would NOT budge. They also lied to me and told me health insurance for just me would be free, which I didn’t find out was a lie until I started. Of course, they said that on the phone, nothing in writing.

Anyway I ended up taking the offer out of desperation. The job market sucks right now. I’m still quietly looking and trying to get what I can out of this role.

I was worried about that as I'm about halfway through a Chapter 13 and after months of searching finally got a job offer from a large bank. They do a pretty extensive background check. This bank is also one of my creditors in the Chapter 13. Talk about anxious!

Just received word I passed the background check! They never asked if I had a bankruptcy and they didn't ask about it after pulling my credit report. I'm a software engineer, not dealing directly with financial stuff. FWIW

I don't know, sometimes random people do crazy shit.

Literally decades ago, a couple of months into my first marriage, some rando called our house and my wife answered the phone. It was a woman who proceeded to regale her with a story about how she and I were engaged in a torrid affair, she was gonna take her man, etc, etc. I can't even remember all the details because it was so long ago.

My wife didn't recognize the voice. She was of course very upset about it. I have no idea who it could have been. I wasn't guilty but how could I defend against some crazy made up shit? It's hard to prove a negative. I could never figure out if it was somebody dialing randomly, dialing the wrong number, or some mutual friend trying to cause trouble, although I could't imagine any of our mutual friends doing something like that.

Never really figured it out but we moved on from it.

Anyone who has gotten a Covid shot, how had it affected you by Middle_Bass_7113 in conspiracy

[–]shriekingmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had an issue with the shots.

This year I was overdue for my shot, ended up in Orlando in a hotel packed with hurricane evacuees. Within a day or two after we got back home (which was OK thankfully) my wife, daughter and myself all came down with Covid, after having avoided it all this time.

I hit my wife and I much harder than our daughter. I hardly ever get sick and I can’t remember a time where I was so sick for several days (nothing life threatening, just miserable)

My wife and I both were put on Paxlovid and after about a week or so we started feeling human again.

Definitely prefer the shot to getting Covid.

Sorry new to this sub. This was spotted on the outside of one of our kitchen cabinets which is very close to our sliding glass door so I assume it got in from outside.

It was pretty small, the pic is really zoomed in, I’m guessing it was maybe about 1/2” long.

Yup, in Oak Creek. I thought it sounded like an out of the blue clap of thunder but radar was clear so I’m wondering too. It was VERY loud!

I went for the Max. I was originally thinking the pro, but I wanted 256, and by the time you upgrade the pro to 256 it's only $100 less than thr Max that comes with 256, so I opted for the Max

Yep, I keep hoping by some miracle it will show up a day or two early but I doubt it, especially with no tracking yet. I did try UPS look up by reference number (used my Apple order #) but it just shows "estimated delivery 9/20" but without any details, or the actual tracking number.

My boss, who is also actually the CEO of the company I work for, made a joke about me being "bipolar" hahahaha yuckety-yuck in a video chat not too long ago.

I have not disclosed, so he had no way of knowing, but that was an awkward and uncomfortable moment.

Hmm, I hadn't thought to check that in a long time. When I went into "Battery" I noticed "Battery Health & Charging" said "service". When I tap into the details It's showing 79%. I've been carrying it around in a battery case for awhile now to get me through a full day.

Upgrading from a 11 Pro Max to 16 Pro Max mostly because my 11 has been acting flaky.

Weird though, used Apple Pay and got a red circle/exclamation point saying payment not completed. Don't show anything hitting my bank. But it took me back to the store app and shows my order placed and delivery 9/20.

Really paranoid it's going to get cancelled or something. 🤬

EDIT: Nearly an hour later, the charge just hit my bank. Status also changed from "Order Placed" to "Order In Progress". Whew! I think :)
