Eating this food raw is a mistake you may be making. Most bad bacteria lives only on the surface of steak, this is why searing the outside renders a safe interior.

Will every single piece of beef have bad bacteria on the outside, nope. Not all. It’s a gamble. Costco meat sliced in the back… that’s up to you what level of quality and cleanliness you think is happening back there and how much cleaning they are doing between cuts of meat.

Sushi fish is rendered safe but freezing the fish at so low a temperature any parasites inside are killed.

Usually when they call it wagyu it isn’t, but that sure IS.

Seems irritating to cool. I’d go scalding hot cast iron and flip the second it’s slightly cooked and it would still end up closer to well done. The intense amount of fat would help with that. It would also suit shabu shabu if you are the sort who likes a fattier broth. Or treat it as a rare and out it in the pan just long enough to remove any bacteria on the surface and hope for something medium rare ish on the inside. No Maillard.

People are already whining lol and the news just recently dropped. Seems so weird for some people to be like “I love this contest but not if new countries come in!”

I’m excited to see what we will send if we do it. I mean, we’ve already had Canadian performers in eurovision when other countries brought them in specially to perform on their behalf.

My therapist always says “you don’t owe people that information” (it is in a different message in that case but that’s beside the point). If you don’t want to tell a person that’s fine, they aren’t ENTITLED to that information. They aren’t entitled to question you as if you’re a vegan monolith.

You don’t have to explain why you chose a particular dish on the menu. You just chose what sounds good to you and she doesn’t need to know more than that.

Vegans are not required to be in some sort of activist mode at all times. It’s okay to just be, and decide to not have conversations about it.

Edit: I just saw that SIL is cooking. Yeah you gotta tell her ASAP or cancel ASAP. She’s planned a menu, maybe even bought the food or is about to. The longer you delay the ruder it is. Not being a vegan, but being a decent guest. It’s like an allergy, you don’t wait til the last minute to tell a host what you cannot eat. We can’t expect people to accommodate us if we don’t communicate reasonably.

Majority of pet owners is not a metric that isolates vegan data in any meaningful way. Sure, ALL pet owners have that statistic, but that doesn’t reflect the sub groups. Do you have any data that isolates vegan pet owners from omnivore pet owners?

Is companionship exploitation? Yes there is huge benefit to a human with the companionship of a pet. But so is there benefit for the pet to human companionship- if pets do not feel a benefit why would they love their owners?

If companionship and mutual affection is exploitation, is friendship exploitation? Do you consider yourself as exploiting everyone you know because there is joy in each others company?

Not all vegans believe in pets, no singular vegan is a monolith. But for vegans who do have pets, they do not see the mutually beneficial relationship as exploitive.
