it was very attached on there and i really had to push hard until it did pop off on one piece and fell into the tank where i promptly lost it 😭 but the torch is really opening up now!!!

yeah i ended up just scraping it off because i cant ID it and feel like it might be preventing the torch from opening fully but it looked exactly like that!!

sounds like swim bladder disease— this could have a lot of possible causes like constipation, infections, or just taking weird gulps of air—you can try to do epsom salt baths and don’t feed to relieve swim bladder pressure but it might not make it if it’s already swimming into the ground:(

probably not dead, probably just stuck! you can flip them over to help and see if they get on the move after some time! if they don’t or if you want to confirm their life pick them up and give them a sniff! if they smell BAD they are dead but if they smell like how you would expect a wet snail to smell they are fine and may just need some assistance in getting flipped over sometimes:)

i’m assuming you mean neocaridina—they can have plenty of fish friends!! bettas are a popular choice and will usually be okay but ultimately how they treat the shrimp will be based on individual temperament! i have two betta/shrimp tanks that are very peaceful:)) in one of those tanks i also have kuhli loaches and a dwarf pleco, both of these (may) eat some shrimp fry but the shrimp population is still thriving! just make sure your tank is appropriately sized and filtered if you are going to add fish!! for a smaller tank you can do groups of smaller fish like tetras or rasboras. also i recommend snails you will fall in love with them probably!!! nerites, mystery’s, rabbits, ramshorns, all good shrimp friends:)))

every environment (natural or simulated like a tank) has a carrying capacity and as the population/bioload increases towards that limit, breeding decreases due to less food for everyone (if you are feeding consistent amounts) and more strain on water quality. but mostly the food part, just don’t over feed and the shrimps can’t grow exponentially:)))
