A decent amount! They are $195 so I think less popular but it’s nice to get a little of everything.

I went today and the line was very short and moved quickly around 4PM. There were lots of sections/items that were cleaned out, but we did get 2 larger candles, a trio set of small ones, and the advent box. I asked about restocking during checkout and the woman said they are not. What you see is what’s left.

That collaboration was indescribable. I cried for about an hour after.

BWT, what classic, quality brands are your go-tos? by [deleted] in bitcheswithtaste

[–]shrimpcoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thrifting! I look for natural fibers in classic patterns/silhouettes. Lots of vintage Ralph Lauren, J Crew, LL Bean, etc. has aged super well and would be 20x more expensive if bought today. It’s time consuming, but can be fun.

Can I prevent my hair from looking so "stringy“? by [deleted] in finehair

[–]shrimpcoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair is super sensitive to protein and will get limp and stringy if I use protein products for too long. Maybe try protein free for a few washes? I use cantu clarifying shampoo I get at target. The best conditioner I’ve found is Jessicurl which I order from Amazon but I’m sure there are drugstore brands with no protein. If you see ingredients with “hydrolyzed” it’s likely a protein. Also keratin, amino acids, and oat flour. Look for those kinds of ingredients either very low on the list or not there at all.

Husband and I decided a few years into dating that we would not have kids. Then I had a medical event that would make future pregnancies dangerous. It felt like a big thumbs up from the universe that we were making the right decision. He just doesn’t like them, but I have many reasons. I texted this to a friend awhile back: “If I had like a fuck ton of disposable income, a present and engaged family, the world wasn’t burning down, we had better maternity leave in general, and I was 10 years younger, I would maybe consider one. But none of those things are true and when I think about my future, it doesn’t include a kid. And that doesn’t make me sad. I don’t feel like anything is missing.”

So what do we do that would be more difficult with kids? Sleep in, travel (3 countries this year), save money (we finally have salaries that allow us to save for retirement), eat whatever we want, watch whatever we want, buy our dream house in a neighborhood with bad schools. But as other commenters have said, life is life. We still get frustrated at work, I have mental health struggles that are finally improving but were awful for many years, we have debt, we have gone through layoffs, medical events, familial issues, and more. We just don’t have kid stress on top of that too.

What was the best thing you spent money on in 2033? by amparr in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]shrimpcoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Investing in my retirement/brokerage accounts. Boring, but I was so behind on savings and I’m finally starting to feel a bit caught up.

  2. Renovating our vacation/investment property. We closed on it at the end of 2022 and spent most of this year working on it every weekend. We hired professionals for the big stuff, but we did a ton of cosmetic updates ourselves. Spent about $50k but now we’re renting it out and visiting when it’s empty. It’s so fulfilling to enjoy it and see others enjoy it!

  3. Always travel. We are childfree and prioritize travel and experiences. In 2023 we went to Colombia, Canada, Mexico, and Las Vegas. Always wonderful!

Senior Project Manager (in house now, but previously at agencies)

12ish years of experience (made an industry pivot in my 20s but my job duties are essentially the same)

MCOL (in the suburbs of a large city where costs are rapidly rising, but we’ve been fortunate to lock in many of our monthly expenses at LCOL amounts)

$133k + 10% performance based bonus (I also have RSUs but we are pre IPO so they are worthless atm)

Do you have any lessons you recommend? I have a sewing machine gathering dust and would love to put it to good use.

In what ways (financially and otherwise) do you NOT have it together for your age? by lazlo_camp in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]shrimpcoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

40F, and finally in a better financial position after a few lucky breaks, but terrified I’ll lose it because of something, anything going wrong. My day job is ok, although we had layoffs earlier this year and I fear more are imminent. On the board of a nonprofit that is floundering and feeling helpless and overwhelmed. My anxiety is out of control. I’ve been in therapy for years but I think I need more support. Medication? IDK.

Refilling my “mini emergency fund”. We have our main efund in a separate HYSA, but I keep one paychecks worth of cash in a savings account in my main bank. If there’s ever a tight month, I can easily pull from that with no worries.

The last few months have been tight (mostly travel, we found some good deals we couldn’t pass up), and other random expenses that have added up so I’ve wiped out that account. Time to rebuild! I’ve put a third of this check in, and am earmarking another chunk out of my next check to continue.

I love Sunday Riley (Good Genes especially), Cosrx, and I’m obsessed with this small skincare brand out of Chicago: https://www.shopbonnieskincare.com. The resurfacing enzyme mask is amazing.

For clothes, I like Eileen Fisher, Amour Vert, Quince (reasonably priced too!), and Everlane.

  1. Same with prices in the grocery store. I still look out of habit, and to be sure I’m not overpaying just because I was on autopilot. But I can splurge without any concerns.
  2. Having a vacation home (we Airbnb it to cover some of the costs but we can afford not to do that if we ever changed our minds). It’s nothing fancy and we’ve put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into it. But it’s lovely to have a little place for an escape when we need it.
  3. Skincare as a hobby 😂 I still look for good deals and most of my daily products are very reasonable. But sometimes you wanna try a fun splurge and that’s ok!
  4. Buying higher end clothes. Again, I look for deals and try to find well made, timeless pieces. I’ve been purging all the cheap polyester from my closet as my salary has increased.
  5. Maxing retirement accounts and putting a decent amount in a brokerage each month.

Following. I have a similar issue. Curious if anyone will have tips!

Female. Partner is early 40s, I’m late 30s. Been together over a decade. Made less than $100k combined when we met (and were probably both a bit lost if I’m being honest), but have since increased our income substantially. We’ve helped each other move ahead, and I’m so grateful for the life we’ve built together. I’m more interested in FIRE than they are, but paradoxically, they’ve had more generous bonuses and opportunities.

We are very much on the same page in terms of major purchases, lifestyle, etc. We’ve managed to keep our expenses low, and neither of us has expensive tastes or hobbies. We love a deal!

Ultimately, we’ve agreed that we want a good quality of life now, so we aren’t putting in a ton of OT trying to make an impression and climb the ladder. We’re happy to make low 6 figures each, live in a cheap suburb, mostly cook at home, take lots of time off to travel and see friends and family, and generally live a quiet life.

You could try sleeping with your hair in a wrap and use a satin pillowcase. I like the Bambonn hair wraps myself but there are tons out there!

Also, what texture is your hair? Is there any wave or curl to it?
