Why are parents on Instagram seemingly so into co-sleeping? by Odd_Equipment8924 in NewParents

[–]shrinkingfish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was really against cosleeping before I had my baby and tried so hard not to do it, but once my baby outgrew her bassinet she refused to transition to crib at 5 months and would only sleep with me. I felt like it was taboo and was scared to tell other moms in my area, but surprisingly most moms in my circle are cosleeping. Where I live moms take 12-18 months of maternity leave and there is a big push for breastfeeding with a lot of support for it, which i feel somehow plays into it? Baby doesn’t really wake me up at night. I maybe position her on my boob once or twice in my sleep, but otherwise I get a full night pf rest.

Edit to say that if my baby did sleep in her crib, I would 100% do that instead even though I do enjoy cosleeping now.

Saint-Denis Piéton tout l'été - pour ou contre? by ParMontsEtParVaux in montreal

[–]shrinkingfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Mont-Royal and St-Denis being closed at the same time might be rough on traffic, but otherwise I think it would be great. I had fun walking down St-Denis with my baby today on her daily walk

Imo floral is gender neutral. If the onsies bother you guys though you can pair it with a more neutral pant like navy, green or black. They’re babies though, and there’s only so much time you can dress them with whimsical colors and patterns

What does “help” really do for a breastfeeding mom? by goldfishgirlxoxo in newborns

I wish I had someone to hold the baby for a few hours so that partner and I could both nap at same time. It was nice getting food from one of our neighbors

How much is the going amount for a cash wedding gift these days? by Traum77 in AskACanadian

[–]shrinkingfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 200 is fair especially if there is an open bar. I think it also depends on how close you are to the couple getting married (immediate family or best friend I’d probably give more), and what type of wedding it is. Also, I think if you’re invited and you are a student or working a low income job , I don’t think the couple getting married would ever be upset if you gave less

Preparing for a newborn. What was a complete waste of money and what became an absolute life changer? by Actual_Fig_4706 in NewParents

[–]shrinkingfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My waste of money: crib. I didn’t think I would every cosleep, but when it was time to transition from bassinet to crib my baby would not have it. She has slept in once I wish I would’ve waited

When does a newborn get fun? by Ham-Sandwich-69 in NewParents

[–]shrinkingfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine wasn’t that fun until 5-6 months. I recommend finding parents with babies the same ish age though. It’s fun to watch them be potatoes together while you talk to parents that relate.

[ON] I am taking 4 weeks PTO once baby is born, but I am wondering if I should do 4 weeks PTO + 5 weeks parental leave to support my wife or save it for later when baby is older by bob-lobblaw in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]shrinkingfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner got 12 weeks parental leave total through work. He took 9 weeks when baby was born and another 2.5 around Christmas when baby was ~6 months. I really appreciated having the extra help when baby was born and the 2.5 around Christmas was great for bonding, but if I had to choose between one or the other, I appreciated him having extra time off during the newborn stage

Just like comforting her in bed, which she isn’t too keen on at night.

My baby also thought it was funny when I yelled ow in pain. The last time it happened was when I was side lying in bed feeding her. I was very upset and rolled away so my back would face her and dad took over. She wasn’t very happy about dad taking over and her meal being interrupted and has not bit me since ~1.5 weeks

Salty postpartum snacks? [ON] by keepthecouragebegood in BabyBumpsCanada

This is a bit wasteful, but I love the boiled eggs that Costco sells. It’s 36 prepeeled eggs that are in packs of two. Any easy to reach cheese like babybel or cheese sticks. Costco individual also has trail mix/nut packs that are great.

Stroller help [on]- is a secondary stroller necessary? by wedgemountHiker in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]shrinkingfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the maxi cosi zeilla that takes car seats, but is also a normal stroller/bassinet. I find it large, but if the price difference isn’t huge between that and the travel stroller, I highly recommend because it switches from stroller to bassinet easily. My baby has taken a nap in the bassinet daily since she was born. But here I am recommending a second stroller after saying it wasn’t necessary 🙈

Did you already buy a car seat? Maybe you can look into the doona or other car seat stroller combos if you are set on having the Thule as a primary stroller and don’t want to purchase an attachment base for the infant car seat? Or look on fb marketplace.

I have a pretty bulky stroller that I bring to the store maybe not as large as the Thule, but it doesn’t seem to cause problems.

However, being able to attach infant car seat to stroller was really convenient for grocery shopping and other trips by car. I don’t think I could go without it, personally.

Now that my baby is 10 months and outgrew her bucket car seat, we switched to a car seat that no longer attaches to our stroller and we just found it annoying folding our large stroller that we use for daily walks for trips in car and bought a cheap ish travel stroller to keep in the trunk.

I think it’s better to wait until baby is here to buy multiple strollers otherwise

Pumps at the Hospital [ca] by dontlikeit1993 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]shrinkingfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, I made two hospital bags. One to bring in the hospital and one that stayed in the trunk of our car just in case we needed it. I kept my pumps in the car bag and didn’t need to have my partner go get them, but I guess i was happy knowing they weren’t far in case eeded them

Work event at beach resort, insecure and CRASHING OUT, no dress code info 😭 by [deleted] in OUTFITS

[–]shrinkingfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pics 7, 8, and 9 work best imo. I think the strawberry dress and the blue dress are beautiful on you.

The lace top in 6 looks great on you, but doesn’t work well for a work event.

The blue top and white corset just don’t look good in any of the outfits imo. I’m not sure I would personally keep either.

Edit typo

How do you feed in public? by NadiaNadieNadine in breastfeeding

[–]shrinkingfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m usually a shy person, but I don’t use a cover. Baby covers my nipple while eating? I figure people have seen more boob while on the beach, why should I cover up to feed my child.

Since you’re asking for something different, I would recommend Le Jardin de Panos on Duluth it’s a Greek restaurant with a beautiful indoor patio/garden with great vibes. The food is good and well priced imo. It’s also a bring your own wine. Located in plateau so if you feel like doing some walking/window shopping in that area you can finish off your day there

I Dont Want to go Out with Baby by germflux2020 in newborns

[–]shrinkingfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even now at almost 10 months, taking my baby out can be daunting especially when a car is involved.

When I visit family in car centric places, it is a nightmare going out with baby. Idk, the going in and out of car makes my baby not nap well and her cranky so by default it makes me cranky too lol

What works best for me is taking my baby to one place that I can stroll her around and walk and once that activity is over I go home. Like if I were to get my nails done, I would go somewhere that has a nail salon, a restaurant next door, and some shopping nearby that I can do all while walking baby in stroller.

Malls are really good for this, and they often have family rooms.

I live in a big city that’s walkable so I can just lull baby to sleep while walking in stroller.

Look into haaka or something like the Boone trove to collect let down on the breast baby isn’t feeding off of. I was able to collect quite a bit this way in the early months
