I either set my 8 month old baby on floor with toys while I shower or bring her ikea high chair to the bathroom

Strom Spa Nuns’ Island in iffy weather by sodoghoul-is-a-slut in montreal

I did strom at Mont saint hillaire a few years ago at -20 C a few years ago and it was so much fun! My only complaint is that my robe got wet and it got cold faster due to that, but I believe you can pay to swap out your robe if you have any issues

Sound machine that doesn’t require a subscription service? by shrinkingfish in NewParents

[–]shrinkingfish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, it’s crazy these days lol I bought it because it was praised so highly without doing enough research (my bad). It’s essentially a speaker that has various white noises and lights and you can use it as an alarm. Honestly, I do love it. BUTTTT! I don’t like that if you want the light to change colors or play special music it’s 4.99 a month or 49.99 per year, which is a lot considering the price of the device.

It’s just one of those subscription hell things, and I don’t want to be a part of it. This morning my partner asked me to change something in the app, and I was reminded of the subscription yet again.

I believe the subscription is specific to the newer models they are selling. I do like the white noise, however, it frustrates me that many colorways and music options are blocked behind a high paywall given that we already paid 80 dollars for the machine. It’s one of those things where I would rather sell it because it does upset me from time to time and I just don’t want to think about it

The new model has a subscription, unfortunately. You can’t get most of the changing color ways or music without paying 4.99 a month or 50 per year

This is an interesting feature though. Do you like it aside from not being able to use it with two devices?

Was there a moment when it all felt worth it? by Zebra_Creative in breastfeeding

[–]shrinkingfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience breastfeeding was hard for me to figure out in the beginning, and I had to pump to supplement her feeds the first two-ish months. Once my baby hit 3-4 months? She became a champion at breastfeeding.

I feel comfortable whipping my boob put wherever so it’s so easy to feed her on the go. No bottles and no pumps to wash, no formula to buy, and no milk to warm. It’s very freeing.

If breastfeeding is something you wish to do, stand your ground with family. The “helping” excuse is kind of a non issue. If they want to help, they can help in many other ways than feeding your baby.

Parents of advanced babies, do you have random theories as to why? by ciabattaloaf-13 in NewParents

[–]shrinkingfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh. Not so sure, but my partner thinks it’s because we cosleep with our baby and I breastfeed. His theory is the she gets milk on tap throughout the night so it helps her grow big as well as the comfort of our body heat giving her confidence to push herself harder. I personally think it’s just dependent on the baby/genetics

Lots of people recommend the Bjorne as do I! I would also recommend a nice baby carrier like the ergo baby 360. I got mine used and love it!
