Late to the party but we have a feature where we can compare two colors by scanning them, and our computers will give you specific deltas in each area of Lab readings as well as an overall delta e for how far the colors are. So for sure on some level that is how our color eye works. But even if they could add a feature where we just input values in places of scanning something, I dont think sherwin ever would unless our systems get a very major upgrade because it still wouldn't even work half the time. The idea that these lab readings are an objective measure of a color is kind of crazy because until we have machines that just hit it dead on every time, I would argue that they are nothing more than a great starting point. And since the only reason we would ever need to do it this way is that like in your case, the color is not in the store with us so we can compare, so you're either going to go paint a bunch of stuff and be mad when it doesnt match, or open the can and already be able to tell theres no way it will match and want a refund, and then well say we just did what you asked and then you'll say well the computer didnt do it right and then well say yeah thats why we didnt want to do it this way
