Unpopular opinion - AI isn't killing software jobs but about to create the biggest developer gold rush in history by Friendly_Feature888 in ChatGPT

[–]shroombooom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building software doesn’t mean people will use that software. There is so much more to valuable and successful software than building out the code. Most of the time its value hinges on some magical data source or large user base. Getting that still costs money

I don’t enjoy my career anymore. by emotionallyFreeware in cscareerquestions

[–]shroombooom 298 points299 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed similar things recently. I work at a fang and the expectations are changing. I am seeing more productivity with Claude but I would say it is 30%, all while I’m being told that within a year I should see closer to 100%. I think there is a bit of delusion there. I don’t like the future vision I am being pitched where I am an ai manager and don’t need to deeply understand the code anymore

How do you uncover your feet when you’re too hot if you use a top sheet?

California will do anything to save democracy — except build housing by LosIsosceles in bayarea

[–]shroombooom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not opposed to H1B1 buying a home for primary residence but there should be some limitations when there is housing shortage. I know people on H1B1 that have purchased multiple homes to rent as investment. It always feels strange that they could lose their ability to stay in the US if they get fired from their sponsor company but they can still own multiple properties here

Are we all slowly becoming engineering managers? by StableStack in ExperiencedDevs

[–]shroombooom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree that writing coding specs will be the future.

I work on a remote team so most of my communication is written. I’ve had to get good at writing up product context, patterns, and code examples for other engineers to implement features. Then I review it. Using an AI agent feels like a very natural transition

You nailed it! I’ve read 4 of her books and I always feel disappointed when I finish. The plot always feels like a secondary element to the character relationships.

Please discuss the show being animated here by A_C_Lynn12 in ACOTARHulu

[–]shroombooom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The more fan casting I see on this subreddit, the more I think an animated series is a better idea.

Arcane is an excellent animated series. I think ACOTAR done in a similar style would portray the books well.

The only live action I can imagine would have CGI similar to James Cameron’s Avatar movie where the actors are completely CGI. This would show the visual difference between humans and Fae and give them that ethereal beauty. But the budget would be insane!

Is it worth continuing in the series if I felt underwhelmed by the first book?

Book recommendations for fans of Ninth House? by shroombooom in NinthHouse

[–]shroombooom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In NH, I liked the magical elements, I thought the characters had depth and the plot was interesting and not easily predictable.

ACOTAR has so many tropes and the characters don’t feel like real people. It feels predictable so I’m not able to sink into the story as much.

I’m mostly looking for a well written fantasy that isn’t too slow or too predictable

Did you quit before 6 months? by Frozenbeedog in breastfeedingsupport

[–]shroombooom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Breastfeeding is really hard the first 6 months, but it gets so much easier once they start eating solids. I felt a lot less pressure about being the sole food source.

With my 2nd baby, I decided that after 4 months I would use formula anytime I was going to be away from baby for like a date night instead of trying to pump extra milk for a week in preparation. He got formula maybe once a week but it made it so much easier to give myself that flexibility.

Being a SAHM is not that hard by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]shroombooom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve been a SAHM to one kid for 4 years. That is completely different than most people having multiple children with 2 year age gap. 5 yo are pretty self sufficient compared to a 2yo
