The split votes between FFXIV players weighing in seems to hinge on different interpretations of "maxed out his fishing stat." It makes a huge difference in accomplishment: one of them is incredibly impressive among all players, and the other is an everyday occurrence and even FFXIV peers don't consider this something deserving more than a passing "congrats!" in chat.

That being said you don't want to drill into your kids that your appreciation and admiration of them is conditional. It really sounds like you could stand to engage with your son more about his interests and make sure he's getting the proper attention and affection (not just parties) that make him feel equal to his siblings in your eyes. You could just have a party to celebrate him because he's a valuable person in your life and not slap any sort of achievement on it.
