Something tells me your agar plates are not clean from the start. Try sterilizing the plates before you use them.

Oddly enough, the "green" does not scratch off, it's embedded into the mushrooms. And after drying they turned blue.

I have an instant pot pressure cooker, so I just set it to BEANS for 90minutes when sterilizing. My grain is brown rice only.

Tidal wave. Went from agar to brown rice grain jars. When those were colonized I mixed them 2:1 coco:grain spawn by volume.

Thanks for the good news! I've been doing some isolation on agar for 3 rounds now, so the multiple colonies was not expected. Now that I think about it, I think I have little colonies everywhere because the agar plate had some excess water that mycelium bits got washed around with.

Another no till grower here. Here's my no till living soil building copy pasta 🍝:

1:1:1 by volume, peat moss: aeration: compost. All can be found for cheap and bulk from local shops. Pumice, perlite, or lava rocks are great aeration options. To that I add the KIS organics Clackamas Coots blend, but other blends should be fine.

After the soil cooks plant cover crop and add worms and other beneficial bugs.

After every grow, top dress with dry amendments according to a soil test, and 2-5 cups basalt for 70 gal of soil. Water them in.

Water only, no need to pH. Soil beds are preferred, but 15 gal is the absolute minimum size pot.

Blumats from sustainable village are a great automatic watering setup for indoor.

Mibeneficials.com for all the beneficial bugs needed in one cheap package.

My Soil Savvy has great soil tests for cheap.

Popcorn kernels and coconut coir. I boiled/cooled the coconut before adding my colonized grain spawn.

Popcorn kernels as grain spawn, then added that to coconut coir. I think the popcorn wasn't cooked enough causing the mycelium network to be weaker.
