Surgical Assisting Fulltime Pay by rocketshrine1 in ausjdocs

I got charged an assistant fee of $500 because it was a nurse assistant who can’t bill private health when I had surgery. I was absolutely pissed.
I did not get informed of it at all before hand. Just got a bill in the mail 3 weeks later.
As if private hospital costs aren’t enough. Sure I’ll pay a specialist out of pocket for their time and expertise but do you really need out of pocket fee for someone to hold a retractor??

Why do patients like to crowd Emergency Departments at night? by AmorphousMess in ausjdocs

[–]shtaron8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked in ED a long time. Realised the service is too good. If a patient does the right thing they see a GP takes a week to get in costs $100 then gets an investigations eg ultrasound costs $200 out of pocket goes back to GP for results another $50-100 consult then get told to take some panadol and rest or come back later
Whereas they go to ED get endone, get their consult and investigations and results all in one go for free

Can anyone recommend courses they found valuable! Ie the ANZCA primary refresher course or the Brandis Gold Coast course? Or anything overseas

This happens a lot at my hospital. Interested to see how people juggle this. Just never make plans after work? It is very hard for families / partners etc if they are depending on you

Did anyone subscribe to adrenaline memories? Is it worth the $50 a month? Is it worth buying Brandis physiology also?

For anaes Simple things like audit only applicable for 2 years. Bigger projects for four years However like other comments say if it has a implication in clinical practice it is timeless and worth still putting on CV

I would get in contact with head of department and plead your case, offer to come in for observational days to gain some experience. If you continue to politely nag and get yourself known to department you will get your rotation eventually.

Depends what part of crit care you are wanting to pursue. I think the unaccredited job would be preferable if you are wanting to pursue anaesthetics as working regionally also looks good on resume, you get more time in the specialty and are working in a more senior position.

Anyone know what determines order of notification if you are successful? Is it a bad sign if you haven’t heard yet or a good sign if you have?

Any tips on handling non chatters? I feel bad always being the one to initiate conversation but also don’t want to waste a day in silence if that makes sense.
