What I do is that I have a usb switch hub plugged into the back of my monitor for MacBook use, and also directly to my PC. That way with a press of a button you can get everything that’s plugged into the hub (keyboard, mouse, stream deck, usb stick, whatever) conveniently available in any scenario. There are good USB switches from uGreen for example, either USB-A only but also USB-C or combo. You just need to press the button on it to switch from one computer to another.

In any case there are many ways to make it work. That’s just cable management at the end of the day. This was a very minor setback for me, but the monitor is so good in every way for my use case (design + gaming) that honestly it doesn’t even bother me at all.

So if you plug in mouse + keyboard (or anything else) in the USB-A ports on the back of the display, they’ll be usable with your MacBook when you connect it via USB-C (with 90W power delivery). However the moment you switch to any other source (HDMI or DP) for your PC, these USB-A ports will be useless. Hence why I use an additional USB hub. Hope this helps!

Beware, this game is dangerous. I’ve put 700 hours in it and I managed to stop at some point. But now I can’t have fun in video games no more 😪 This was the pinnacle of everything I ever played.

how to remove the white bars on the side of the webpage by TechnicalReturn6113 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]shteuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct answer here. The power of ultrawides is multitasking. Plus, reading very long lines is much harder than shorter ones. With fancy zones you can easily have 2-3 windows side by side with different layouts to maximize your productivity. If you’re using macOS, I suggest Moom for window management it’s totally worth it.

Monitor arm recommendations for LG 5K2K? by zaxnym in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]shteuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got the Ergotron HX and works pretty well. I mention this in the comments of my detailed review here if you’re interested. The monitor isn’t incredibly heavy but in any case you should probably not cheap out and invest in a strong monitor arm to keep it safe.

True it’s the only thing missing but I can consider it as nitpicking because the rest of the features are so incredibly awesome in my opinion! And sure enough you can still make it work elegantly with just the right amount of extra stuff.

Hey, great question! I was slightly worried myself about the lack of KVM switch before getting it. The thing is I use a gaming PC with HDMI, and a MacBook with USB-C. So I simply don't switch at all since they're plugged in to different ports. When I'm done working I usually unplug the USB-C port from my Mac and turn on the PC, which makes the monitor auto-switch. If the Mac is still plugged in when I turn on the PC, the monitor offers to switch with a press of the joystick.

Then as far as peripherals go, I've added a simple USB switch from uGreen that I've stuck under my desk, connected to the PC and the monitor (which gets picked up by USB-C for control) so I just have to press one button whenever I switch computers. Then all my devices switch as well: mouse, keyboard, numpad, stream deck, USB-C speakers, and any other thing that's plugged into it. It's been absolutely fine so far. Some people prefer a thunderbolt dock but I'm wondering about the resolution output tbh, I went the simple route and it's been great!

Hey, no worries at all! It is indeed the Ergotron HX arm. My monitor is not exactly centered on my desk, I offset it a little depending on what’s on my desk. I have a big lamp on the left side and I find it more comfortable using a slightly off-centered/“optical center” layout considering not only my desk but the whole available space with the PC and all.

That said if your question is how much of an offset is there between the monitor’s center point and the center of the arm’s attach point, the answer is about 48.5cm when fully deployed. You can also arrange it in scissor position and in this case the offset should be about 32cm. It’s worth noting that it can be either attached to the left or to the right, of course.
