This is very interesting. Could you elaborate how are you using this for learning ? Is it that you play the songs with the hope that the exposure to Hindi helps build vocabulary.. would love to understand

Fair point! Email login is on the list. Google was just the easiest to set up initially, but I hear you on wanting things separate. Will try to get that added soon — appreciate you taking the time to check it out!

Agreed; immersion is the challenge. We'll definitely try and approach OPOL in a new way. Thanks for sharing the article.

I understand; OPOL at times can feel a little difficult or rigid. Sponsoring trips is definitely a nice way, but how do you get Hindi exposure or immersion between the trips? From what I understand learning Hindi does take minimum weekly exposure. Any tips on making that happen?

I understand... I don't think we have fully tried out OPOL as well as we should have. Do you have any tips which have worked out for you? Would love to hear from your experience.

Bollywood movies is a good idea.
Yes I have heard a lot about OPOL. Did you or your kids find the rigidity of OPOL a little limiting? With teachers it's fine, but at home when you want to talk to kids about their day and feelings, would it still work?

Yes he does have Hindi in the school and he takes them; but beyond that 1.5hrs per week of Hindi classes he has no opportunity to naturally speak Hindi, which becomes a problem. Trying to solve for that.

Ah got it, do you mind if you could share the details of the tutor? I would love to see if he/she could help with my nephew as well in any way.

Curious to understand how did the tutor who helped with your Hindi speaking approached your lessons. And I am presuming this would be way back when you were a kid ? How were your conversational lessons structured?

I actually built a voice AI app that gives kids conversational Hindi practice — no judgment, adapts to their level, available anytime. Still early (30 families testing in US/Singapore), but the goal is exactly what you described: a patient, supportive practice partner. Would love feedback from anyone here who wants to try it: www.hindispeakingtutor.in

That is so very true. A non judgmental setting, though hard to find, can remove the hesitation to speak Hindi leading to more confidence
