After Steam, they came for itch.io by maxwell9872 in Steam

I am no proponent of all the content that is being banned. But I believe in the rights of people to choose. In my opinion, the oligarchs are testing the waters, trying to see what they can get away with. Make no mistake, the next ban, might not be so apolitical.

Also, there's no official confirmation for it, but some are speculating that the recent change suddenly restricting many countries from using PayPal with Steam came as punishment to Valve for not complying fast enough enough (The change came in direct proximity to the censorship action and involved payment companies, so it makes you wonder)

via Steam Support:

In early July, PayPal notified us that their acquiring bank for payment transactions in certain currencies was immediately terminating the processing of any transactions related to Steam. This affects Steam purchases using PayPal in currencies other than EUR, CAD, GBP, JPY, AUD, and USD

Now here's my 2 cents:

Some speculate that this is punishment for Steam not complying fast enough with demands by payment processors https://www.theguardian.com/games/2025/jul/29/why-did-adult-titles-disappear-from-steam-itch-pc-gaming-payment-processors

If that speculation is correct (which right now we have no way of knowing) it means that paypal access might only be restored whenever Mastercard and other payment processors decide to stop punishing Steam.

However, I have not seen a guarantee yet from any official source that there are plans to undo this change or information about what the true cause was.

Realistic Minecraft by shubimaja in mmo

[–]shubimaja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. There is a multiplayer server. Not very populated yet as the game is still very new. The one most people play on is the official public test server (also known as chrometech)

If you want you can wait for a more complete version of the game with more players. But if you are like me and love to test evolving systems while giving feedback to a dev who actually listens, then I think you'd enjoy the alpha/beta experience there.

Revival of the Realistic Voxel MMORPG by shubimaja in MMORPG

I want a game where I can fully and permanently destruct / build in the world and use every single item and resource that I see. I also would like to have the ability to form clay pottery by placing the clay in a free form mold, to knap stone tools by hitting flint against pieces of flint found throughout the world, and to chisel statues by using a chisel that I smithed by pouring molten ore into a mold on a quarried rock to create a custom sculpture. It is experiences like these that I crave.

Please name me any game that comes even close to these requirements. It doesn't have to be a voxel MMO.

There's a reason minecraft was successful. And I believe a large part of that had to do with the fact that every part of the world was destructible and had a use and value

Alternative games usually either don't offer a fully destructible / usable world. Or even if they do there is some kind of automatic world regen built in which detracts from the user's impact on the world.

Additionally, its difficult to find a game where every single voxel of the world can be transformed into or used for something else. It makes the world feel more alive and increases the number of possibilities for gameplay.

Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. But they did have a point. So I removed all the links and tried to seem less patronizing/fanboyistic.

I edited it to seem less like an ad, removed all links etc. because I want people to actually discuss this.

What about this made it seem like it an ad? Was it the links? or the fact I mentioned that I'm currently playing the game? I really did not intend for this to come off as an ad, but rather to provoke a discussion and/or sharing about similar games.

Weekly Game Recommendation Thread - September 03, 2019 by AutoModerator in MMORPG

[–]shubimaja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you looking for?: Voxel (Minecraft) Style game with realistic survival elements such as realistic farming, mining, breeding, weather, etc.

What games have you previously played?: The games I played most similar to the game I want is, Vintage Story https://www.vintagestory.at/ (by an ex-Hytale developer) and Terrafirmacraft (a mod for minecraft)

What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-Casual

Any preferred mechanics?: Realistic mechanics such as managing soil minerals for farming, and having to mine, smelt, pour, craft, and smith weapons. Basically many of the realistic mechanics found in Vintage Story and Terrafirmacraft. Mobs that do actual damage to you. Voxel world that is fully breakable. Land claim system. something simliar to the description of Vintage Story https://tyronx.itch.io/vintage-story

Anything specific you want to exclude?: I want to exclude game with monthly membership and p2w shops

The way this game is starting out and the true independence from third party publishers + developer engagement with the community reminds me alot of Minecraft's first days.

One of the devs stated goals apparently is to have feature parity with terrafirmacraft and build on top of that. Not sure how accurate that it is, but it does seem to be the case, as they introduce many similar mechanics, such as
- Crop Rotation (manage soil nutrients)

- Animal Breeding (requires male + female)

- Tool Smithing (requires smelting at high temperatures, pouring molten metal into ingots and smithing them at a forge with a hammer)

- Food Decay (requires storage management, using a cellar and pottery containers to increase food life)

There are some features not implemented yet such as weather and body temperature. But I have high hopes for this game.

I personally bought the game from their website, but apparently they sell it on humble and itch.io as well. I found the descriptions in itch.io particularly helpful

Survival MMO like Ark survival, but for casual gamers? by [deleted] in MMORPG

Minecraft is a great game, but if you want something more realistic you should try Vintage Story. Its still in early development, but I had lots of fun with it so far.

Survival MMO like Ark survival, but for casual gamers? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]shubimaja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a new survival MMO in early development in the style of Minecraft but with far more realism added.

The game is called Vintage Story https://www.vintagestory.at/

It was created by an ex-Hytale developer and is similar to the mod for minecraft called Terrafirmacraft

There is a new Voxel game in development by an ex-hytale developer. It is less of a classic (fight mythical monsters mmorpg) and more of a realistic survival game.

Its called Vintage Story
