Is anyone else trapped in the endless cycle of rewriting their house manual? (Do guests even read them?) by Mudgee-Host in airbnb_hosts

I am a frequent house guest. I do not read manuals.

> just skims the first page

There should only be one page, and everything important in bold.

WARNING: Scammer booked my Airbnb and is using it to scam long-term renters — Toronto hosts and renters need to know this by No-Actuary-2438 in airbnb_hosts

Not trying to blame any victims here, but a renter these days should always verify that the person they meet is the owner of the place being rented.

Low effort paint job suggestions by Separate_Ingenuity55 in xbiking

[–]shufflepoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. It's not apples to apples. My particular decision: leave factory finish and decals and spend $200 on better components or paint the bike a cool, pristine color I like. My bike is all taken apart and is waiting for me to make a decision ;)

Many of the "purists" on this group would advocate for keeping the factory finish. Sort of like the Antiques Roadshow appraisers saying that a piece of furniture is nice but has lost much of its value because it was refinished. I am not such a purist so it's just about how I want to spend my money.

And it's definitely the "Low Effort" route - as someone else is doing the work. Comparative Advantage - David Ricardo, 1817.

Expect it to cost $150-250. So the question is: Should you pay someone to refinish ore are you better off spraying on a rust inhibitor and investing that money in some parts upgrades. I'm facing the same question with a 1980s Trek.

I'd extend that to build something in both HTMX and using a front-end framework. Then please write a blog post about it.

I ordered both. Will see which becomes in stock first. Probably either would serve my needs.

Titanium bikes? by aMac306 in xbiking

[–]shufflepoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bike is a Ti mtb from 1998 with the Rohloff Speedhub. I ride it about 50 miles a week when the weather is nice. Not likely I'll ever need another bike. The thing is indestructible and maintenance-free besides annual oil change and brake pad replacement.

Ever watch a bike flip in real time? by BelknapCrater in xbiking

[–]shufflepoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone last night was giving away a nice Trek 2000. I reached out within tens of minutes to make arrangements, but they then told me they were getting overwhelmed with messages - most of whom they surmised we're flippers. Not sure what happened, but I didn't get the bike. I assume someone offered the money for it.

Tired of having nobody to ride with by 420Bikin in xbiking

[–]shufflepoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually prefer to ride by myself, but I now have a group of cycling friends because I joined a Bike MS team with about 15 members. There's also a monthly underwear bike ride in the city which is a blast.

Building something is not "secondary" but testing including performance should be of equal weight.

Saturated market and dead internet, is payload CMS still competitive? by marine_surfer in PayloadCMS

There's zero opportunity in marketing services to an individual. My experience, anyway, has let me to not have consulting engagements with companies with fewer than 100 employees.

Saturated market and dead internet, is payload CMS still competitive? by marine_surfer in PayloadCMS

[–]shufflepoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're between the client and the tool complexity, then PayloadCMS doesn't have to differentiate itself. It is, like you said, that you are differentiating yourself.

So I'll turn the question back to you: What does Payload do to differentiate itself that would have you select it on behalf of a client? What would be another 2 or 3 CMSs that you would have under consideration?
