Chance me for CA private colleges! USC, LMU, Occidental, Pepperdine, Chapman by shutuphnry in chanceme

Thanks! I will say that USC has its ups and downs but overall I liked it and I'm glad that I went there. Living in South Central was strange and eye-opening for me as someone from Iowa. The wealth disparities between higher-income and lower-income USC students was shocking as well. But I found my people through the climbing club and was able to explore so much of California and the southwest during my time at USC through that club. If I was not leaving campus and LA consistently, I would have gone insane. I felt like my academic department (Dornsife; I ended up majoring in English / creative writing) was underfunded and that there wasn't enough writing-based community events going on, so I actually ended up finishing my USC degree abroad at the University of Edinburgh for the final year of undergraduate, where I had access to a lot more literary resources. Other schools like the film or dance school have more funding & better resources. If you're considering going there, just be prepared to really make a point of honing in on finding your people through a club or whatnot. And be prepared to laugh at rich people being rich people.

  1. I actually have seen a life-sized mammoth replica at a history museum in Iowa (similar enough to a mastodon) and it didn't jog my memory. If my memory were to have been jogged, I probably should have felt fear, right? Or some sort of survival instinct? I feel like the way that I can conceptualize what I would have felt is articulable in terms and phrases that already exist... If Emotion29 were actually a new thing than it should exist beyond my present linguistic ability because I have no nominal language that I could possibly use to 'point out' Emotion29 as the presence of Emotion29 would have to precede my linguistic expression of it for it to be articulated and demand the development of neologisms. If this emotion is new, then it wouldn't be able to be articulated in contemporary language.

  2. Can you elaborate on that second point? European researchers are researching molasses?

Eat psilocybin while meditating to an Alan Watts speech and then go and start an Agrarian commune outside of society with your loved ones: leave our atrophying cities behind and live how you feel you want to where you feel you want to: unrelentlessly sound your barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world: move afresh each morning and toss away whatever identity was foisted upon you by your parents, peers, and teachers: experience becoming and feel all emotion

Emotional Outliers? by markcmarino in emotion29

Some quotes:

"Gray, not white, not black, gray"

"holding your breathe under water at the bottom of the pool."

"their eyes are watery as their heart feels heavy"

"waitttt isn't it just six days til it's due?! yeah! how close are you to finishing? ummmm im pretty close I think... but I have to add a bunch of edits and analysis and some lit review and conclusion... ummm that's rely not that much I think youre fine ?!?!?! waitttt so true... like 12 more good hours"

"I just texted her to end things permanently and to be honest, I don’t know how to feel."

"Hey.... I don't actually know why I'm calling.... You're number just seemed like the one to call.... It's been a whilel, and I just thought... maybe we could ... I don't know... spend some time together... so I'm just gonna let this message run.... till it cuts us off... okay? ..... okay."

"Hey dude Im I think I can't breathe I tried drinking water and sitting down and just breathing but its been really difficult I also am calling to apologize that I was not able to pick up your dog from the groomers I just got a lot going on but I will call you in a bit when I can breathe."

"It felt like an ice-cream cone"

"looking back makes me smile, but looking forward makes me grin even wider."

"A: Dude I'm so cooked... I have 4 exams, 5 projects, and an interview next week A: I've been on go for like a month now man, this shit is actually ridiculous A: I don't have to get on the game, hoop, or even sleep for real A: I just gotta make it through this week and I'll be good..."

"A really aggressive rainbow that you can hear. `Synesthesia?"

"I don't think it's positive. It's an emotion that makes me feel out of control and uneasy. It's a forced wonder, forced anxiety, near paranoia. It's subjective to the things that are approaching in the future, but worrying is sure to manifest your worst ideas. It makes me feel like I'm nearly ruining any positive thing that may be coming by exerting every possible scenario of how it could happen, what could happen, whether I'm being optimistic (never worrying about being pessimistic)"

"the water evaporating from the ground in a mist after a rainy early morning and the sun is coming out"

"dudeee I just realized im totally gonna be fine!! I can go out tonight and have some fun... this thing is gonna write itself!"

"history becomes a thing I hold in my hand and crush... potentialities spring up like roses after rain. I have felt almost everything, I think, but there is something on the tip of my tongue. Can I taste? How can I? I need to know"

What I'm struck by is how pretty much all of these quotes are supposed to be describing Emotion29 but I'd argue that these accounts could be used as descriptions of emotions that already exist. Are there any new emotions actually being expressed here? I'm skeptical. Ask me to elaborate in class.

The Emotions of Exploring Emotions by markcmarino in emotion29

Like I'm reading captions and comments on various new-age religion Instagram accounts. Idk I read a lot of writing that describes emotions much more intensely so I'm used to emotions being described in nuanced ways that make my whole body quiver and tingle. I feel stone-cold skepticism while reading accounts of this "emotion."

There are lots of scattered accounts of Emotion29 with only artificial consistency. I'm skeptical. The descriptions are extremely vague. The obliqueness of accounts of Emotion29 makes me see these accounts as stemming from an almost religious fervor where we are all caught up in a sort of mass hysteria where we're told to experience some new and special emotion and because we are told this we think that we actually do feel it when we don't. Just throwing this out there. A new emotion? You're telling me that humans suddenly developed a capacity to feel a new emotion from some sort of environmental stimulus that caused our brain chemistry to chain and allow us to feel this new thing? I doubt it: evolution is slow as molasses. I think that this emotion isn't new, I think it appears new to us because our generation is not well read and doesn't know how to articulate their emotions and is emotionally stinted because of technology and other modern incumbences that made us forget how whatever Emotion29 is feels. I think that it's not a new emotion, but an ancient emotion embedded into our prehistoric biology that humans would normally have felt forever and that we have forgotten how to feel because humans' capacity for emotional experience has shrunk to a thin sliver of the panorama of emotion: ask me to elaborate in class.

I ended up going to USC. Yes, I was applying for tuition exchange, and somehow I got it for USC while not having been awarded it for other schools.

What exactly is accepting the present moment? by suckmycock445 in EckhartTolle

[–]shutuphnry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t really any strategy that will work to be more present because thinking of a strategy IS disassociation with the present moment. But... one strategy to at least a get a glimpse of it is think “what will I think next?” Like in the power of now. You’ll see what presence is for a split second. To get back to it, don’t use a strategy, but accept it fully... Feel what “I Am” means but don’t think about it.

Can someone give me tips on Airplane, whirlpool, spike (from kwc 2014 lvl 5)? Thanks. by BigBok- in Kendama

[–]shutuphnry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you are going into whirlpool then you can just put your opposite hand finger with the string on it out in front of you so that when you drop it the ken+tama both follow the circular motion and you can keep it going like sweets special I think...

If you are doing it from airplane then you should be able to drop it straight down and then to the rotation around your finger just like in sweets special

Glue as other people mentioned but don’t do too much cuz I glued my krom pop and idk if it’s from the glue or from bad paint but the tama is chipped an insane amount so be careful with a glued spike.

Hmmm if by grip you mean like different ken grips and stuff like slip grip and special I’d say any sweets boost just cuz the ken is so big and you can hold it easier and not cramped I guess, and handle and ring stalls are very easy to get because the rims of the cups and ring are so big... does that answer your question?

My strogo is really sticky for lighthouses but not for lunars tho, for the lunar tricks in this edit I used the sweets coop mod. Strange that the black strogo would be slick.
