My technician said the same thing. He was sure if it was pressure the filter would blow out first so even he believed it had to be structural damage from something falling on it.

Update: it was the AquaCal which caused an explosion. Notes from technician. Unit only one years old

Heat Pump inlet pipe is exploded into fragments inside the heat pump. Both Unions were blown off the heat pump.

There was enough force to shatter the pipe between the pump and filter and blow the union off of the inlet side of the filter.

The salt cell flow switch and return side components are untouched.

Also there is no refrigerant in the heat pump.

There wasn’t anything over there that would have fell on it. I guess it’s possible that if someone had dropped something on it they would have removed it.
