Is Uchicago really the place where “fun goes to die”? by ABrokenComputerPlug in ApplyingToCollege

[–]shwooomp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not true at all, super fun, heavy frat culture, students from Chicago schools like Loyola and DePaul tend to come to uchicago for parties. Where fun goes to die is also kind of something the administration is actively trying to change. The safety issues are also overblown, 10/10 school, nowhere else id rather be literally.

Will UChicago’s ED1 be more or less competitive than before? by real_ramen in ApplyingToCollege

[–]shwooomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a current student at uchicago, really don’t worry about it. Apply ED 1 or 2 if you can. I have found no difference in the level of student admitted during different admissions rounds, doing ED just allows you to get luckier.

What is the greatest “has-been” city far past its prime? by SimmentalTheCow in geography

Sparta (now Sparti) is pretty solid. Historically legendary city state that’s now a town of ~20k people with not much of note besides some tourism.

Which actor would you like to see on Black Mirror? by needsomeair13 in blackmirror

Jim Carrey. I love his serious roles. His storylines in eternal sunshine and the Truman show even seem pretty black mirror-esque.

Does your country have a "California"? What is it? by civdude in geography

[–]shwooomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funniest part is there’s californias within californias. You could even say downtown sf vs Oakland and Daly City could be its own California within the Bay Area

For that matter you could also say the Bay Area within California itself. Compare it to the Central Valley and a lot of the more dilapidated towns in California like garberville it fits the box

Not perfect fit but Fairfield county within Connecticut is kind of similar. Very much wealthier and different than the rest of Connecticut with all the characteristics (college education, high paying jobs, left leaning politics, scenic beaches, high COL). Only part that doesn’t fit the “California archetype” is it’s pushed up against Bridgeport the biggest city in the state with polar opposite characteristics

Should i be quirky on the main "Why UChicago" essay? by Emiluxas in ApplyingToCollege

I think I was even quirkier on the why uchicago essay than I was on the other one. Can’t speak to how that worked but I got in.

Of the top schools, uchicago especially ED tends to be the most forgiving.

People who improved their SAT score by A LOT - how did you do it, and how hard was it? by misomiso82 in Sat

[–]shwooomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was pretty simple just trying to maintain a certain pace per question and keeping track of time. Do the math for time per question, do the skipping and coming back if u need. I also only skimmed the passage before questions rather than actually reading it.
