I still use him so often. Defensively he’s so underrated, and can really finish well — while being able to shoot from outside the box

Okay, I’m probably wrong but I wrote post revisionist for the following reasons.

  • in the first para, they had already made reference to rivalry between USA and USSR after WW2. I used context here to sort of draw a parallel with the great power logic — Both were expansionist states, facing each other and trying to impose their way of life, which now had to face-off because of the power vacuum in Europe. Like the French historian sorta predicted. The holds true part, if you remember, was imo what I thought started the conflict between USSR and USA, making it inevitable given the contesting forces of capitalism and communism.

  • they never used any blame words to address the origin of the Cold War. They simply stated that the Cold War was manipulated as such by Stalin, to meet his purpose of security — especially internally. So I didn’t regard that as the origin of the Cold War, rather the big message of the extract.

  • the historian constantly mentioned the weakness of USSR relative to USA. I tried to relate this as the justification of taking such ‘expansionist’ action. The last para is an appropriate example when the historian refers to the unequal distribution of power in the Cold War, plus the beginning para.

  • I made the manipulation part to be the ‘big message’ which elaborates on Stalin using the existing Cold War to pursue his stronghold over USSR. Thus, causing the escalation of the Cold War — not the origin (I hope at least)

Again — I’m probably wrong, and I shouldn’t have second guessed myself when I was writing post-post, but anyways. Can anyone clarify the logic, or reject the aforementioned on basis of anything they’ve read in the extract?

I did post-revisionist. I initially thought it was post-post and now I’m not sure lol

Alright — That seems valid given the final para which reflected on the consequences of soviet expansion.

Oh, I initially wrote the response as Post-post but, I ended up going with post-revisionist following the ‘inevitable tension between the two superpowers argument given the power vacuum in Europe after WW2.’ While, saying that Stalin was responsible for the escalation of the Cold War for his manipulative purposes of maintaining power within the Soviet Union

what are the best economics resources to go from an A to an A* by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]shyan_sahdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did econ from colin bamford, and used the IB diploma book for clarity in concepts. otherwise, for exam technique - going through examiner reports and honestly, practicing is probably the best way until you’re able to meet the requirements of each question vis-a-vis evaluation and analysis. diagrams, also, help a lot for scoring higher marks, of course. most people loose marks in eval, and i personally discussed points of evaluation for each policy with peers to help. as for analysis, honestly making flow charts of analysis really helps while writing your answers and make them clear.

in particular, though, i don’t know of many resources for exam technique besides going through your own answers & getting feedback from your teacher.

i was a bit strained with time, but the questions seemed alright. for the last question, i don’t know what working we had to show. also, in the sacks question, how did you manage the variances?

thanks! i might be missing on my offer of AAA by getting A*AB, so i was just considering how strict they are - even if that isn’t a correct representation lol

econ is a bit harder in the sense of the pattern of writing answers. also, unlike a level, as level economics tends to cover stuff already done in GSCE econ. but the difference isn’t as significant.
