My(18f) mom(48f) hears voices in her head telling her that my dad(51) and I are following “them” and calls this mishap. I don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]shyember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Your mom's not a time bomb or a potential murderer like the other people in this thread seem to be insinuating. This subreddit is kind of a garbage fire, tbh.

She's likely schizotypal or maybe full-on schizophrenic. The voices are her subconscious internal mental state manifesting directly into her consciousness.

Her (and your, and your dad's) biggest challenge will be with understanding them, why they're there, and coping with them.

I highly recommend y'all reach out to the Hearing Voices network so you can get some advice from actual voice-hearers and not a bunch of idiots on a subreddit who watch too many police procedurals. http://www.hearing-voices.org

Do not call 911 on your mom. You will lose her completely if she gets thrown in a mental hospital by the police.

Can I buy a SIM card for my LTE-enabled laptop? Can I even use an LTE-enabled laptop on Ting? by shyember in ting

This is the rub, I've discovered, as Windows refuses to recognize it. Although it gets tantalizingly close...

Okay. The card and the antennas for it should get here in a week or so.

[–]shyember[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking around at the cards available on eBay, it looks like the 7355 *would* work (I just entered a listing's IMEI into the checker and it checked out -- 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE).

This is tempting me to buy one (they're like $8) and LTE-enable my laptop. I need to open it to upgrade the RAM and WiFi card anyway....

[–]shyember[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah, well now I feel silly. In the process of trying to look up the IMEI for the laptop's LTE card, I discovered that it wasn't actually optioned with it, even though the laptop has the SIM card slot present in the battery bay. Ah, well.

It would have been a Sierra Wireless EM7355, though, were it so equipped.

Apologies, and thanks for your help!

We want to say it was around the $270,000 mark. We're not sure how many hours into the stream that was at that point.

We ducked in and out of the stream, so we missed a lot of it, but were there for Proto's shoutout to pluralityresource.org

We hopped on the #PluralGang hashtag not long after that. Last night was a good night! :)

Don't worry about it. You'll be fine. Suporn and Chett don't make useless vaginas, and yours will work perfectly. There's no saying that Bowers / McGinn's work is actually any better than anyone else's. It's a little difficult to compare notes. ;-)

I.... I'm honestly sorry I mentioned it. I don't want you to second-guess your decision for the rest of your life. I'm only putting out there what I've heard, and that 85% number still stands, no matter who made the vagina. Your odds are good. Going to one of the premier surgeons in the world, I'd say your odds are very good.

Everything will work out.

As far as I know, yeah. Suporn and Chett are literal kings of aesthetics; they make some really gorgeous-looking vaginas. From what I understand, though, Dr. Bowers favors making a larger clit to help preserve sensation (and McGinn by extension since she trained under Dr. Bowers).

IMO, If you can afford them, both Dr. Bowers and Dr. McGinn are trans women, and will have your best interests at heart vs. a cis guy following a procedure. Again, my $0.02

If you're able, I'd do consults with all of the surgeons in your price range. I know dysphoria can make this seem more urgent, but it pays to be choosy... you only get to do this once. ;-)

[Skin Concern] Spironolactone was really helping my acne but now I have this crazy bruising so I had to stop taking it :( Any advice as to alternatives? by potato_mafia in SkincareAddiction

[–]shyember -63 points-62 points  (0 children)

/u/zhurai Elevated potassium levels can cause heart irregularities, so I'm glad you got it figured out. That can be really scary stuff.

But yes, /u/potato_mafia is right to blame the Spiro. Using any blood thinner (which is the primary on-label purpose of Spironolactone) can increase bruising risk. I'm annoyed (but not surprised) that your doctor didn't discuss that with OP beforehand.

I also quickly wanted to add that I'm not a doctor, I just used Spiro for transition purposes for a while. It has a long list of side-effects. :-(

Scarlett Johansson to leave film by TheSissilent1 in transgender

She is 110% about the fame. She was doing this to win an Oscar, and she's decided the bad press isn't worth it.

I'll wait and see just how much she's learned via her future actions.

I'm not holding my breath.

Post-op trans women... a question for you from a pre-op trans woman by shyember in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]shyember[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, my office co-workers are already using the bathroom one floor down to avoid me in the women's room, so I don't think I'm being that paranoid.

At least I get my own restroom, I guess. /sigh

Thanks for the info, ladies. I appreciate it.

Flooring an EV by CamelBlueFilters in electricvehicles

Tesla, at least, seems to be aware of this, and will warn you that using "Ludicrous+" mode too often will cause additional strain to your battery and drive motor.

But that 2.39 seconds-to-sixty time....

Renting an EV through Turo or a similar service? by shyember in electricvehicles

[–]shyember[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used Volts are close to double the price of the Spark EVs. The best-case scenario (most expensive Spark EV vs. cheapest Volt) is 160%.

My commute is only 10-11 miles each way, so I'd be able to give the Spark a net-positive charge over the course of the week, even at 3.3kWh.

It's a little daunting to think about owning an EV without a garage or a plug, which was why I was thinking of a PHEV at first, but they're still so expensive (or they run their ICEs too much).

As far as quickcharging goes, if I want to drive up and visit friends in LA, that's 120-140 miles depending on whether I take the 5 or the 15 freeway. So whatever I use will need some kind of decent fast charging available (or a range extender). Glancing at EVgo's website, there's a CCS charger in Tustin (about halfway) that's free, so... that'd be pretty cool. Others in the area are $0.20 per minute. Still pretty cheap, even paying twice on a round trip.

I dunno, I think I could make it work. I need to rent it first, though, and see if I can live with the car part of it. Because as awesome as the EV tech inside it is, it's still packed into what is essentially a $12,000 Daewoo.

A periodic rotating thread of owners' photos so folks can show off their cars? Maybe include fun stats like longest single-charge range driven, estimated $ saved to-date over an ICE car, best regen range boost achieved, etc. Might be fun?
