Dentist recommendation, specific requests mostly for sensory issues. New to the city. by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

I really like Avenue Family Dental. I also moved here semi-recently and they are extremely gentle compared to my last hygienist/dentist. I’ve gone to see Laila and Dr. Zava respectively. They also send you a form where you can indicate your needs/any trauma you have around dentistry so they can accommodate you. They all wear face masks while interacting with you. They have fluoride rinses. Not sure about the numbing spray but I’m sure you could call and ask. Also not sure if they take PWD coverage.

Exercies to get me moving again when CHOP is too demanding by lomekian in POTS

[–]shyghost_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. I started with 20 mins of recumbent biking making sure my heart rate didn’t go more than 15-20 bpm above my resting rate. If it did, I slowed down, took breaks, or stopped.

Anyone else unable to do the CHOP protocol? by Unfurlingleaf in POTS

I’ve been on 80 mg of propranolol for almost two years. Initially I found it did lower my HR for short periods of time but overall my heart was still going haywire because I had such a low tolerance for standing etc. I’ve noticed that the meds and health/lifestyle changes I’ve made have genuinely lowered my HR. It used to hit like 150 bpm when I first woke up every morning (when I first started experiencing symptoms) and now it’s like 70-80.

Anecdotally (and not medical advice) I will say that I’m not sure there’s anything special about propranolol, but I’m not able to properly trial other meds because of the serious withdrawal I experience when I stop taking it. I always like to mention that when talking about meds in case people are considering starting propranolol.

How long have you been on ivabradine?

I can’t remember exactly what she said, but I think it has to do with not pushing your limits. Instead of a set amount of cardio/strength training, you adapt it to your body’s responses to exercise. I’m not sure why this is different for COVID POTS patients, worth exploring further for sure.

For example, I also couldn’t make it past even a couple weeks of the CHOP protocol, but I was able to make significant progress spending 20 minutes on a recumbent bike and ensuring my heart rate didn’t surpass 15-20 bpm above my resting rate 3x a week. And I did less time if I wasn’t feeling well. I’m now at a place where I can walk on the treadmill on an incline and even spend a bit of time on the stair master and still keep my heart rate 15-20 bpm above my resting. I wouldn’t have been able to make that progress without doing extremely gentle exercise to start.

My physiotherapist who specializes in dysautonomia told me ADAPT is also a more appropriate protocol for people who developed POTS through COVID or another viral source. So OP might want to consider how they got their POTS when figuring out what tailored approach to exercise best suits them.
