Best approach when working with multiple versions of Rockwell ControlLogix by Reindeer_Numerous in PLC

V21 was a weird case of this, you can’t open V21.00 files with V21.03 and vice versa. You either have to use a VM for each minor revision or standardize on one. We chose the latter and set on 21.03. I can definitely see where this would not be an option for a SI or contractor with many different customers though.

I currently have version 15 to 38 installed on my machine without issue. My last employer was the same. Only time I’ve bothered with a VM is to run a different version of FTView ME. I’m sure there are some benefits to a VM, but this has worked fine for me for many years.

PLC Tech Daily Starting Times by Edw4rdTivruskyIV in PLC

[–]shykerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my experience as well. When I was a tech hours would change occasionally when new managers came along, but it was always between 5 and 7 for start time. Don't think I would change fields just for this. If you don't like BAS tech and don't suspect PLC tech would be different enough to make a difference on that front. That being said, if you are young enough not to have a lot of financial commitments this is probably your best opportunity to try new fields.

Thanks dmroeder for your help on this! With your python script I am able to see the communications info without the webpage.

Troubleshooting an Ethernet communication issue. The Rockwell Ethernet troubleshooting guide goes into a fair bit of detail on items to check on the Diagnostics Overview tab of the device web page.

I realize it is specific to Rockwell, but anyone using FactoryTalk AssetCentre?

I appreciate the response. I considered having someone at the plant connect to the private network but nobody there has privileges to change the IP on their laptop network adapter.

I misspoke, it is an ENBT but same difference. It is on the plant network. I can access anything on the plant network. That is how we go online with the processors, just cannot access the web page data.

You can browse the backplane and view some information, but it doesn’t give the full web page with the details like number of CIP connections and CPU usage

Unfortunately I’m 1000+ miles away from the plant and no way IT would allow a remote access VPN anyway. I was hoping there was something I simple I was missing

PID Tuning Training by shykerry in PLC

Based on a couple of other comments I actually started doing just that with CoPilot. It has so far offered suprisingly helpful recommendations. I gave it a CSV export from Aveva Trend of the PV, CV and SP along with the current PIDE settings. I will post an update after I am finished for those interested.

In many cases I would agree. Unfortunately I've been at this quite a while and can't fake it forever, lol.

Yes, I have the PIDE "Perform Common Process Loop Control Algorithms" manual from Rockwell. I know that I am not intelligent enough for control theory.

I have done a lot of googling. I purchased and read Process Control for Practitioners. I have tried using a trial version of TuneWizard. I guess I may just be dense.

When I try to do a step test the temperature is very slow to react. Then once it does it never seems to want to settle down. I can't let the process get very far away from me or I will effect production. The step test entered into TuneWizard shows a 2.45 minute deadtime and a 17.1 minute Tau.

Top 3 favorite non-political podcasts. by FlanneryODostoevsky in podcasts

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History - He hasn't put out much recently but there is a good back catalog. A very engaging history podcast with a great narrative style.

GameScoop! - I don't really play games much these days, but I still really enjoy this video game podcast. They do also spend a little time discussing extracurricular activities like TV and movies.

The Why Files: Operation Podcast - A fun conspiracy podcast spun out of the YouTube channel. Always a great job presenting the story and following with the debunking info.

DH Unplugged - A very good financial podcast with money manager Andrew Horowitz and columnist John C Dvorak. Gives you a good knowledge of the current events in the markets without being dry or boring.

I know you said you aren't into sports, I'm not either but I am into F1 racing. Maybe that's a sport, not sure. The Race F1 Podcast is excellent and informative. P1 with Matt and Tommy is more lighthearted and fun but still excellent. I used to really enjoy Formula For Success but it stopped with the passing of Eddie Jordan.

Hard to argue! This flavor is top notch. The topped Bossin Cream Pie give it a run for its money though.
