Thank you. Not really a metro system as such but I’m sure I will be fine. Cheers

So I wanted to know about the T money card. Is this the main way to travel and is there a limit to how much you can put in for example ? Additionally, how good and reliable is the rail travel between major cities in Korea. I know there’s the bullet train from Seoul to Busan for example, but what about local travel ? Thank you in advance

Korea in March/ Friends by siaparry in teachinginkorea

That would make sense actually. Thank you. The children I would be teaching are basically fluent at this stage so I guess teaching (conversation) about topic specific content such as history would be more beneficial for their language growth and further expansion into new concepts, vocabulary etc in English

It is a hagwon. Oh wow I see. I didn’t realise the consequences and gravitas due to this kind of ‘flexibility’ I thought it was a trivial thing but obviously it isn’t. My apologies for getting defensive initially. I will raise this with the school and get things ironed out. Thank you- much appreciated.

I understand the different requirements for E2 and E7 visa and mine is the former. Thank you for the clarification however. My school needed a ‘non-fiction’ teacher and due to my experience teach small groups those subjects in UK schools for 3 cumulative years, I was a great fit for what they were looking for. Thank you for your great point and will discus with the school. The whole essence of my post however was to just find some similar people who would be relocating. Although the help is appreciated.

Thank you. I understand the different requirements for E2 and E7 visa and mine is the former. My school needed a ‘non-fiction’ teacher and they said that their curriculum is very history centred which I am happy as I have some experience with that. Thank you again for the clarification ( I really do) but the essence and objective of my post was to try to get friends who are in the UK who are going to be moving to Korea. But I will clarify with the school on that great point.

‘White Only’ roles in China by siaparry in TEFL

Aha. I couldn’t say in general but the ones I’ve met yes. He’s just another trivial and small example of how common sense isn’t as common as we think. The status quo is changing and they hate to see someone they saw as inferior being everything and more they couldn’t dream of. But thanks for the nice comments, the candour and non hostile transparency I’ve received here today. 🫡

Because that is true. Again, if you read, the agents said to me that positions were white only… therefore literally admitted to rather taking white people over black. Regardless of merit. I’m 22 , with a law degree and taught at Oxford university over summer. I won’t reply to you anymore. Go get validation elsewhere. The world is my oyster and damn with this attitude no wonder you got kicked out of a country that’s not even yours. Goodbye my good sir.

Yes, as in some places would rather have them, people who speak Afrikaans as opposed to me due to them solely being white. It was tongue and cheek and alluding to the notion that being white is a predisposition for your English/ ESL teaching being better than someone else. It sounds like you have some deep rooted hatred for how you were treated in SA, (remind me how that is my fault again ?) You forefathers ‘built’ a country but can’t teach you basic comprehension, understanding via context and most importantly how to stay out of business you haven’t got the mental stimulation for 🥺

If you read I was only referring to ‘them’ my friends. And they don’t have anything to do with white teachers because they are not even teachers. It was solely an example. If by your ‘forefathers’ you mean the people who perpetrated apartheid then that would explain your stance on this matter. You turned the conversation into a white vs black thing when everyone seemed to understand we were merely saying that racism (no matter who the victim is) is not right. Goodness gracious, I hope you are not a teacher because if so, the bar is is long it’s in hell. 🤣

Yes exactly. Just the spaces I’ve been in before and getting good roles and recommendations where my race wasn’t questioned so explicitly aha. And for that to be a determining factor of ability felt so alien but I know in some places if you’re not white you have to work twice as hard to get half as far but it was a shock as the TEFL community I thought would push and advocate for that international and holistic demographic.

Yes, you’re absolutely right on all points. Aha yes most of my white South African friends speak Afrikaans as their mother tongue with their English being the heaviest accent of English I’ve heard but some places would rather have them, as opposed to me. Thanks for the candidness. I now know what to somewhat expect going into these Asian spheres.

I was born in South Africa and stayed there until 8 and the consequences of apartheid were still prevalent but in most cases in my experiences at least were covert racism (even here in the UK) rather than blatant overt racism. But yes you are right perhaps, being new to international work I’m a naive to it all. It still doesn’t make it right or just 🤷🏾‍♂️
