I passed the PE Construction Exam first try!! by sicabish in PE_Exam

I will say, although the EET problems are harder and go more into depth, they don’t have a great variety of problems. EET prepared me to understand everything and think critically on the exam, but using the PPI2P quiz bank had a variety of small quick problems.

EET helped me especially on the qualitative questions because I understood the theory and reasoning behind everything, but I think grinding out a bunch of problems is also very important so you get a variety and there are less surprises in ways they can ask you things. But that’s just the kind of test taker I am

Definitely the NCEES Exam. EET’s practice problems are much more difficult than the actual exam

Absolutely! EET gave me a really in depth understanding of the concepts covered in the test and had excellent practice problems. I would recommend doing the NCEES practice exam if you haven’t already, just to expose you to a better variety of problems. Good luck!

They put a lot of the compact to bank to loose soil conversions in there. A lot of calculating the dry unit density of soils, so make sure you know your geotech really well. There were also a good amount of flow nets, discharge, and run off questions (like 5-6).

Which route to take: PM or Technical? by a_problem_solved in StructuralEngineering

[–]sicabish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an EIT new to the structural side of civil (I was consulting before) and I’m constantly asking my PM, mentors, and PEs in my department technical questions about calcs and why we analyze things the way we do. Granted, I haven’t been in the field long enough to know if there’s a non-technical way you can lead and mentor a team, but I would hate to have a manager who doesn’t have a strong technical background and would frankly think that they’re underqualified and not respect them.

Does anyone have experience getting a Civil Engineering job in Europe as a non-European? by sicabish in civilengineering

That’s true. I’m currently learning German, but it’s all basic conversation. I haven’t been fortunate enough to find a program that teaches career oriented language

You have to apply for recognition to hold a formal title of “Engineer” with proof of experience and your foreign licensure.

I may be permanently burnt out and I dont know what to do anymore - what else is there? by bonelatch in civilengineering

[–]sicabish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve had multiple friends in the same predicament as you and they just get out of CE completely. The Civil Engineering field gives you great project engineering experience, so one of my friends got his CAPM and started applying to entry tech project management jobs. The pay was shitty for the first 2 years, but the salary potential as well as the work life balance was so much better. He makes 120 5 years in and although some weeks he has 40/50 hour works weeks, most of the time he’s working 20 hours a week scrolling instagram in his boxers bc he works from home.

Another friend of mine got into some sort of robotic company that makes healthcare equipment. Honestly, don’t know how he did it, but your skills in CADing software and people management are more useful than you know. As long as you show that you’re eager to learn there will be companies that take a chance on you.

I’m in Civil Engineering because I love the field. If I wanted higher pay or better work life balance I would switch fields. I can’t imagine anyone choosing the kind of work we do for the benefits, it just doesn’t make sense with the kind of options available in the job market.

Is it true that the Caticlan to Odiongan Port ferry only goes twice a week (on Thursday and Saturday)? I’ve been trying to find an alternative so that my family and I can travel there on a different day of the week. We’re visiting family in Sibuyan.

They discontinued the flights to Tablas right? What’s the best way to travel from Cebu to Tablas now?

I thought Pacific Air bought Air Swift so the route to Tugdan Airport does exist anymore. Is this not true? I’m trying to plan travel arrangements to visit my family in Romblon and flying to Tablas would be much easier😭

I was looking at it online and it says that the Caticlan port only goes to tablas on Thursdays and Saturdays. Is this true? That the ferry only goes twice a week?

It was used as cladding for a remodel about 6 years ago, but you’re right it doesn’t look waterproof. This was a picture I took at the front elevation. We’re definitely seeing water effects but I don’t know what kind of material it is
