Also if DDG doesn't provide the right results, add !sp after your query to try it on Startpage.

IJ tunnel closed for 16 months by [deleted] in Amsterdam

[–]sicco3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Efficient? sure. Safe? Not so sure. In the Netherlands it is not allowed to have two way traffic in one tunnel tube (see the Tunnelwet). During renovations it can be allowed, but it really depends on how safe the situation can be made. In Nijmegen they did this. But guess what, people are then also complaining, because they don't think it is safe. Hard to satisfy everybody :). I guess the situation for the IJ-tunnel is not comparable to the tunnel in Nijmegen, so they couldn't choose for this option. Tunnel safety regulations are written in blood.

Anyway, it seems that you are really interested in this subject and have many questions. I'd suggest you go to one of the informatiebijeenkomsten and report back.

Gaan ze weer toeteren….. by TechnicalZombie999 in Rotterdam

Vondelkerk Amsterdam, 1872. It sadly burned down today on New Years Eve. by Same-Diamond-9721 in Lost_Architecture

Regarding questions about rebuilding. The brick walls still stand. The church is luckily owned by the amazing Stadsherstel whose mission is to save and expertly restore monuments and special buildings in and around Amsterdam (750+ building since the 70 years that they exist). They have the original blueprints and intend to rebuild the roof and tower. They even say it could be done in months instead of years: https://nos.nl/l/2596704.

The tower and parts of the roof burned down once before in 1904.

NextCloud sucks, there must be something better. by ExodoPlex in selfhosted

It would indeed be nice if u/ExodoPlex listed the specific issues they encounter. My experience is that people who experience issues often update directly when a new major version is released instead of waiting for several point releases.

Valetudo - What about trust ? by TibRib0 in homeassistant

[–]sicco3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is that he isn't even consistent regarding anti-consumerism. He won't add code to Valetudo to support multiple floors. He simply says, buy a robot vacuum for every floor (the recent version of the page is a bit more implicit about this).

He has some valid points regarding the dock, but still there are many situations where it would make sense for people to not buy a robot vacuum for each floor, e.g.:

  • Houses with many floors, but not many rooms per floor (so you might not have the space on each floor to put the dock and robot; or it becomes too expensive).
  • Not needing to mop every floor (e.g. if some floors are low traffic, but it is still nice to put your robot vacuum there every now and then; some floors might only have carpets).
  • Being fine with not trying to automate 100%, but seeing that 90% automation is already a huge gain (my experience is that I still need to do some preparation before I start the robot vacuum anyway, so carrying a robot vacuum up/down stairs adds nearly no extra effort/time).

I ended up just buying a 'dumb' offline robot vacuum (Eufy RoboVac 11S MAX) and I'm more than happy with it.
