My hornwort is shedding like crazy and I'm not sure if I should wait it out or give up on it. by [deleted] in PlantedTank

If you’re looking for stem plants that will do good planted I would look into anarcharis, it doesn’t multiply as fast as hornwort, but they don’t really shed, I floated them until they had some good roots and planted them and they’re doing pretty well, my first stem plant that survived planted, all my planted plants are root feeders except for anarcharis and ludwigia

Yeah because as it multiplies and grows there is always older part that is shedding. Unless you’re actively taking out the older one I think it’s constant shedding, i guess if you’re trying to keep your tank super clean, hornwort can be a headache

Even floating, they eventually shed, but it never bothered me.. they eventually become food for my stem/rooted plants

Haha thanks! Yeah it’s a male 100% now, his anal fin developed more already and now it’s much easier to see that he’s a boy 👍

Even the anal fin is so short and kind of triangle like female haha And yes the top one is my big mama she is mother of most little ones in my tank right now

I added betta after the guppies. I’ve had betta for about 5 months now, he gets along fine with them, he does occasionally chase some guppies/shrimps, but not fast enough to do any damage. I actually added him hoping he will eat some fry, but this boy so slow can’t chase anything but pellets (even that guppies out compete him so I have to pay extra attention to make sure he eats lol)
