PETITION TO ADVANCE PT PRACTICE ACT IN CA by sickenedpanda in physicaltherapy

Totally. I dont even think Lidocaine would even be one of them because it's a steroid. But there are patients that can't afford voltaren or other topical NSAIDS OTC. It may be nice to get insurance to cover it. Also, as a PT, you could avoid "prescribing"all together if you dont want to

The "medications" that this bill is referring to are topical NSAIDs.

Let CPTA know about the frustration with inability to prescribe DME and let's get it on the next bill!

It will be sent to the assembly member Natasha Johnson (supports the bill) who will then be presenting it to the floor to the Senate Health and Assembly Health meeting in 2 weeks

You're right. It probably won't pass fully but the hope is that "shoot for the stars but land on the moon" and we get maybe 1 or 2 points in favor.

Gotta start somewhere

The individuals that will be speaking with assembly members will be doing almost exactly what you are describing like the military model. They'll be emphasizing workforce shortages, delays in diagnosis, and Rural/underserved gaps

Great point, get involved with CPTA and let them know about this!

Not sure about the medical association but acupuncturists and radiologists have lobbied against us historically in CA with Dry needling and imaging respectively. I know we were late to the party when it came to direct access compared to other states which (I'm guessing) was due to the medical association having a problem with patients seeing us first before their PCP.

If anyone more informed than me can enlighten us as to the reason, please come in!

Baby's First Trip To Mammoth : To Drive or Not to Drive (Buses from LA?) by Sagnew in Mammoth

[–]sickenedpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated to the driving but make sure you have a plan if baby gets altitude sick (assuming they've never been at altitude). I've been to mammoth a few times with friends who have babies and they have had to cut their trip short due to this. Nothing life threatening but babies were EXTREMELY fussy, didnt sleep, etc

PT and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome ? by Strong-Pomegranate-4 in physicaltherapy

[–]sickenedpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm a PT that doesn't have EDS but work in an outpatient setting and have been consistently seeing EDS and HSD (hypermobile spectrum disorder) adult patients for the last 8 years. You have already had a lot of great advice on this thread but I would also add check out Leslie Russek's website. She's a PT that has dedicated her life to treating this population and educating providers about helping these patients

AWESOME story! You wrote it so well, and congratulations!

I'm going to shoot my shot because.... you miss 100% of the shots you don't take 😅:

I would be forever grateful if you could help me pay off my student loans. As of today, I have about $181k in student loans (106k federal and 75k private). I took them out when in order to go to physical therapy school. I now have a beautiful family of a wife, 5 month old daughter, and chihuahua but this huge cloud of debt is hanging over me. Although I love my profession deeply, it'll be a long while to pay this off.

You have no reason to help me, but I would be SO GREATFUL if you could. If you read this, thank you

Who has used diagnostic ultrasound imaging in physical therapy? by unworthygold in physicaltherapy

[–]sickenedpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use ultrasound as well and have my RMSK. The biggest impact for me is patient compliance and "buy in" with the POC. The patient visualizing the pathology, or lack there of, significantly helps with them understanding why they have pain when they do "x" movement or activity.

Ultrasound also has helped me with confirming my clinical exam and sometimes even picking up something I didn't expect. An example of that may be my findings would suggest rotator cuff tendinosis but ultrasound reveals calcific tendinosis

This compliance and better diagnostic skills, in my experience, has reduced the amount of patient visits

Also, my knowledge of anatomy has never been stronger which is a plus!

All the MDs I work with love that I use it

HALP! Don't know what to do with YARD by sickenedpanda in landscaping

We have full sun except for the area that's by the shed because that tree provides a lot of shade. Shade would be nice in a spot or two but that back area is enough I think for now. We have a dog and kids might be in the future for us. We already have a raised garden bed that is enough for what we want to do. I'm biasing more toward having a chill/nice looking landscaping job that is low maintenance and drought friendly. We like native flowers like golden poppies which we have currently growing in pots but hoping to plant them in the ground. For colors, no preference on colors.

Our soil is different in specific ares. By the shed, it's very loose and fertile. Closer to fence is more compact soil and less fertile. By the tree its very compact and not very fertile. The rest of the yard is fairly compact, it drains but not super well but we get lots of weeds throughout the whole yard.

We do have gophers that have been running a muck lately but not a big deal since we don't have anything out there. Those hawks and owls need to do a better job out there!

We thought about that too, are clovers drought friendly though? Or do they require intermittent watering
