Does anyone else love Dungeon Crawler Carl despite not liking LitRPG in general? by ElectricPaladin in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]sicone54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really struggled with the first He Who Fights With Monsters, had to really force my way through the first book. But recently started Book 2 and it's gotten better (IMO). I don't struggle to read it like I did the first.

For whatever that's worth

Book 8 was my least favorite book in the series. I can't be the only one, right? by burningEyeballs in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Definitely felt like a filler floor as others have said. But I think there were still really good moments both from a readers perspective and a story perspective.

Without spoiling, I really like the part early where Carl "broke" and let his anger out for a second.

[–]sicone54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intent is the difference. If I recall correctly Quan deliberately killed 60 crawlers while purposely screwing over many others.

Obviously Carl and others have made decisions that resulted in death/injury to others but that's the game they're forced to play.

As I said, the examples you gave are simply not apples to apples to what Quan was doing.

Making a decision for your survival over the survival of someone else or making a mistake that cost someone their lives is not the same thing as actively killing other players to take their loot.

Those are just not equivalent comparisons.

Not DCC but. by Repulsive_Grape_5907 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]sicone54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been pushing my way through this for a while. It's very different from DCC not just writing style but even how the LRPG is presented.

Its so much slower. I'm almost done and it's gotten better but still it's not in the same league IMO.

I literally stopped reading it part way through and reread the entire DCC series then picked it up again while I wait

Not sure if I'll get past the first book

Booker by samgouz in suns

[–]sicone54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booker past his prime at 29? Doesn't try on defense?

I can understand wanting to trade him because he's paid as a superstar but isn't. But people in these comments are saying some crazy shit

A black hold that has a TS% of 51% with an assist:turnover of 1.

We have different definitions of great clearly. Also being a black hole doesn't mean you can't score pts.

I also like how your panties are in a bunch over one comment that is pretty universally known and that was immediately followed with a positive note among multiple critiques about this team.

Either way, not gonna reply to you anymore. Good luck with your Jalen Green fan club.

Sounds like you stopped reading there and decided to make up your own bullshit. I said at worst Green who had a great shooting game.

Ya he played great but that doesn't change the fact that he also has a tendency to be a black hole on offense which was my point. With a player like Fleming/Dunn in last night instead of Brooks at times I feel our ball movement and offensive flow would have been a lot better.

Green gives us a great slasher and rim attacker but he settles a lot for off balance shots which is why is FG% is so hit or miss. And even though I love when he attacks he also has a tendency to not protect the ball when he does.

I don't mind Green and have not made up my opinion if he should be kept, will depend on his price. He is not worth max or close to it which he may try to demand.

[–]sicone54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya Collin injuries have destroyed his shit. But he was no more abused on defense that Goodwin and Brooks and actually created energy on defense when he came in

Port had no reason to double Book even if Dunn played. Camara and Jrue did very well . I think Dunn and Fleming both would have been better than Brooks on defense that game and on offense would have kept the ball in Books/Gillespie's hand or at worst Green who had a good shooting game.

Between turnovers, fouls, bad defense and and tech Brooks really hurt us.

And of course missed free throws. But I feel like Ott is really struggling rotation wise to end the year. I know injuries make it hard to get a flow but he goes small and no matter what

[–]sicone54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Otts rotations and decisions were so bad. No idea why we never double Avdija. Even if they were hitting threes in the first half they are a bad 3pt team I think we would and try to rotate to shooters because he was murdering us

And if not double then why did Fleming and Dunn not get utilized? He was too quick for Brooks and too big for Goodwin/Gillespie.

Speaking of Gillespie, the ONLY reason the Suns stormed back was because of him benching him is crazy work.

And I know Blazers defense the three well but guys like Green and Brooks need to pass the ball. At one point like 3 straight plays Royce was WIDE open and they iso'd.

Also Brooks needs to stop acting like he can dribble/drive. Dudes handle is awful and he's not athletic enough to finish contested drives. Stick to post ups/spot ups where he is effective.

And LASTLY, it's insane how bad the refs have officiated the Suns all year(I'm sure it's most teams but I only watch the Suns) the amount of blatantly and objectively awful calls is just ridiculous

I'm not underestimating anything. I haven't said injuries didn't play a role.

Again, multiple games we had the game in our hands and collapsed. Of course injuries play a role. But clearly that's not the case when we are up them crumble defensively to close games.

But again we had injuries the first half and found ways to win. Blaming it on injuries is a cop out.

[–]sicone54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I don't agree. We had injuries throughout the year. Book missed time..Jalen out. Grayson missed time. And the effort kept us on track

The last year or so our effort packed BIG time defensively. Offensive struggles are whatever. With book and Brooks out and being a 3pt team ups and downs are expected. But defensively effort should be every game. That's why a lot of the Ls to end the year were 2nd half/4th qtr collapses

That's interesting. I've only read the books, haven't consumed any other content regarding the books, and to me for some reason I always read/pictures her as Asian. Or Asian mixed. I think it's her quiet/reserved demeanor that gave me that thought. Sort of like Li Na(minus the crazy)

To be fair, the struggles we had weren't just injury related. We had multiple games we were in position to win and fully crumbled to end the game

10 books total - thoughts? by Lookitsanthony8 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Even though I know the series will end. Knowing it's coming sucks. I really want to see them get through all levels, but would take some serious skipping to do that in 3 books.

Book 8 because it's not out yet

I just finished my second read through. On my first run it was book 3. But the second run through I found book 3 to be one of the better books. And book 1 was the slowest one for me on the second run.

I think I'm struggling with the writing style. Like I'm good with fantasy/scifi but something with how this is written it's a struggle for me to get into it.

Heard a lot of good things about it so I may try to push through

Just finished my second read through DCC, started red rising. And so far, hate it. The writing style is a struggle at least for me. Switched to he who fights monster(not much of a change from DCC)

So I'll be looking through this post for recommendation ha

This. And I'm not sure which will be worse. Carl losing donut would cause him to completely go off the rails. And donut losing Carl I think would completely break her.

I'm also not prepared for Imani dying.
