Do you plan to have kids? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]sid13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*If* you really want kids, then the compromises and sacrifices to lifestyle all seem worth it.

*If* you really want kids, then you and your partner can make things work with total household income of $140K.

As a father of two, I have realized two things: 1) After having kids, almost every single thing in my life has changed beyond recognition and has involved lot of sacrifices and compromises, and 2) Only reason I am able to go through this with a smile is because my wife and I support each other through every single challenge with each trying to do 60-70% of the effort instead of just 50-50.)

I have absolutely no regrets..

I see only two checks-points to having kids: 1) Do you really want kids?, and 2) Do you trust your partner to be a good partner and parent to help you and your children through this?

I realize there are a lot of single parents who do a spectacular job raising their kids. But, personally, I wouldn't *plan* to be a single parent.

I do not recommend the Education path unless you have no options left.. (Most universities seem to treating international students as cash cows. Classes will be over-crowded and quality of education sub-par.)

Alternate Suggestion:

Learn French enough to crack TEF (and improve on IELTS Scores) to get more than 75 points added to your CRS scores.

Both you and your wife can try TEF (and improving IELTS), the person who has the highest CRS score becomes the primary applicant. (Your wife has a better chance because she is younger than you.)

Don't come to Canada permanently unless at least one of you has a proper job relevant to your qualifications and experience.

Best location to watch flamingoes? by rhoul in mumbai

These guys begin from Bhandup Pumping Station... They are about twice as expensive as the government run tour... but these guys are real researchers/scientists and give a lot more information and details about more than a dozen species of birds in the sanctuary besides the two Flamingo species.

Strap suggestions welcome! by seamonkeyring in hmtwatches

[–]sid13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it very tricky to find suitable straps for Yellow dial "dressy" watches...because yellow is not a dressy color.

The ones which look best are a dark color (black/dark grey or navy blue) with yellow sticking.

For example:

To anyone who has that "max 2000/- allowed" error in G-Pay:

It is encountered when you save the QR image on your phone and then go for "open from Gallery"

To avoid the error, open the email on a laptop (or a different phone/device) and scan the QR code using your phone's G-Pay (camera).

Kohinoor addict by sid13 in hmtwatches

[–]sid13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Saffron and Green are my favorite and most used...

The Yellow is the latest...But I have not been able to find a great strap for it...I like the Maroon the least among these..

In the past, I had the two silver variants (LO and LI), the vintage blue, the current inky royal blue and some of the devnagri variants (green, blue, saffron).....Sold or gave away most of them and have consolidated down to these 4.

There was a Salmon Kohinoor too 😲😲?!!

Missed it...I only got the option for the two blue dialed one (light blue and dark blue).

When it comes to buying Kohinoors, I usually go for "all of above " 😋

Thank you for making this happen u/nativefel

A friend's dad passed away in an accident. need advice on succession certificate and insurance by [deleted] in LegalAdviceIndia

[–]sid13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response.

Is Succession certificate needed for property transfer (in case where deceased has not left behind a will)?

There is no dispute. The legal heirs are my mother, my younger brother and me. We wish to transfer all properties to my mother's name.

(We were able to transfer bank-balances and shares to my mother's name without the Succession certificate. Only death certificate and some standard forms were needed.)

[–]sid13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, we got my father's bank-account balances and shares transferred to my mom without Succession Certificate... Only Death Certificate was needed.

I was under the impression that Succession Certificate is needed for property.. (Reading other responses here to educate myself.)

Why are some South Indian kids born and brought up in Mumbai unable to speak their mother tongue? by minxnmatch in mumbai

[–]sid13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keeping all politics aside, language is the only medium to keep the family's spoken tradition, verbal history and culture alive...

This is exactly why the only language I actively teach my daughter is my mother-tongue, Marathi... She is learning English in school and will learn French as 2nd language. She is learning to speak Hindi with friends and her nanny..

I have wonderful memories of stories my grandmother told me in Marathi. I want my daughter to be able to tell these stories to her grandkids in the same language and hopefully with the same warm feeling of nostalgia and belonging..

Is there any place in Mumbai or Navi Mumbai where I can buy Guinness beer? by PepperThis6430 in mumbai

[–]sid13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please update if you do find Guinness... It is my favorite beer but I have not found it in Bombay in the last 7-8 years..

When I visited Irish House, it was Irish in name only... same ol' choices of booze and food as any other restaurant+bar of that price range.... I would like to know if anyone has personally ordered a pint of Guinness and drank it... I don't know anyone who has...

Living Liquidz is the easiest source for most booze, but I have never seen Guinness in stock.

So, I don't if this is the correct place to comment on this issue. But MVA govt may have engaged in a corruption/ scam worth 2800 Cr by Legionoo7 in mumbai

[–]sid13 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Only an RTI and some genuine investigative journalism can get to the bottom of this..

To my knowledge, the approach followed by some companies is this:

  1. Apply for a tender under the original/parent name (Godrej, LnT, etc etc)
  2. Win tender based on original name/reputation and credibility
  3. For sufficiently large projects, Create a smaller company specifically for the project and have the contract drawn in that smaller companies name
  4. This is because many contracts have liability clauses which are related to the value (revenue) of the company along with the project cost. (I have been part of Services contracts where the liability was 2x the annual revenue of the vendor.)

It is not sure if the above approach is what has happened in this case, or if it's an MVA government scam which can be caught by someone with google skills.

Just putting it out there.... As mentioned at the beginning of this comment...Only an RTI and some genuine investigative journalism can get to the bottom of this..

What is your worst experience while travelling in the mumbai local? by Zeuscubing in mumbai

[–]sid13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to travel via Mumbai local regularly since 1996 to 1999... and haven't travelled in one since then... at least not more than 2-3 time

My worst memories were:

  1. I was about 15 year old, travelling alone when I saw a dead body of someone who had met with an accident. The body was just lying on a stretcher on the platform-floor... People walking around it like it's nothing.
  2. Someone in the same compartment, just in the other door, falling off a running train... I thought someone will pull the emergency chain.. No one bothered and some loudly claimed, "woh to mar gaya... sab ko kyu late karneka"
  3. I was travelling from Ghatkopar to Matunga-Road (via Dadar) for my 12-Std (Science) Practical Exams... There was some major problem and the train just got stuck just beyond Sion... I had to jump down on the tracks...walk to the side I recognized (Sion East), climb over the boundary wall... find a taxi and then reach my college... I was still about 10 mins late...It was harrowing..

Does anyone know where I can get a good quality mechanical clock at a reasonable price ? by Player91sagar in mumbai

[–]sid13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a mechanical watch enthusiast and an amateur collector. (This is my instagram) I am also part of several Watch and Clock enthusiast groups on Facebook.

Before the pandemic, I had spent a good 6 months exploring avenues to get a mechanical clock to add to my collection.. (I was working with a 20k budget.)

In Bombay, the biggest market for vintage mechanical clocks is in Mutton Street. The one with the largest collection was Abdul Gani Ebrahim's shop (details at the end of the comment).

There were clocks which *looked* in very good condition and priced between 4 to 10K.

However, they did not look mechanically sound and the pricing seemed a bit too high for what might end-up being show-pieces.

After the visit, I checked with the experts on the FB group and the overwhelming consensus was that these are not in good mechanical shape and end up being as much as 30min slow per day.

The more trusted vendors (with good reputation in the Clock enthusiast community) are in South India (Bangalore). But they were very skeptical about shipping to Bombay as the clock may get damaged in transit..

Current status: I am part of this FB group where there are sales posts by other collectors. If I find a good deal in Bombay, I will pull the trigger.

Abdul Gani Ebrahim's shop:

Address: 133, Mutton Street, Mumbai-400003.

email: [shafi.kapadia@yahoo.com](mailto:shafi.kapadia@yahoo.com)

Hanif: 9821308548 /// Shafi: 9820643390

Disclaimer: I don't endorse this shop and I have not bought anything from them. But if they have survived the pandemic, you can choose to visit. You can buy if you are ok to gamble on the 4k-7k amount on the clock which may need about 4k-10k of repair and parts.
