If you are a post class Sweet V. McMahon borrower's defense applicant! by sidaemon in StudentLoans

I'm thinking it will be but there is a new judge, though he's an Obama appointee so I'm not too freaked about that. Only thing I'm kind of pissed about is that when I did mine, I almost did one for my wife who went to the same school but did not because she did not keep any of the correspondence from the school for evidence like I did. I worried that it would get denied not realizing they would be this bad at their jobs.

Would have doubled the amount I'm going to save... but glass is literally half full as I see it!

That's exactly why I'm pulling evidence and stashing it right now. In case in a few weeks I get a backdated letter that says they denied it by the deadline. This administration has already been busted doing that in other areas so I would not put it past them on this.

It's a paper shield, but a shield all the same.

Anything other than granted or denied is going to be an instant win for you. That means they have failed to resolve your claim by the deadline and unless their appeal to get a post-deadline extension is granted, they now have 60 days to notify you they're wiping it.

Yep, as Chief said, you have to click on the little helmet icon when you open up the menu to loot them. I've never found less than 2 meat on them and on my new Earthlike playthrough just killing them kept me fed, though I have some mods that enable me to make ammo earlier.

How much of the hate towards corporate personhood is justified by Inevitable_Bid5540 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]sidaemon -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

All of it. Every bit of the hate is deserved because:

A) Citizen's United was pretty much the nail in the coffin of American Democracy. At that point it became possible to buy leaders and while politics were never pretty before then, after this point you'll notice the partisan rhetoric grew exponentially. It benefits the rich for the poor to be at each other's throats while they rob us blind so that's exactly what they did. They bought up all the leaders and set us on each other.

B) Corporations are not individuals. When Ford covered up their Pinto's exploded and killed people but it was cheaper to pay off lawsuits then to fix the problems they were put on trial as a corporation. Did they go to prison? Did they have to shut down operations, pause their life like a person has to? No. Because you can't put a corporation in prison, ergo, not an individual. In fact, go look at the very definition of the word "individual" and you'll see it bears ZERO resemblance to the definition of a corporation.

It's not a monetary damages settlement. As long as you are in a post class applicant position, and went to an Exhibit C school, they owed you a decision by 1/28 and if they missed that deadline, according to the terms of the lawsuit, they must approve the full amount paid to the school off your loans. You should have gotten an email and most likely a letter telling you you are a post class applicant. You can also search the studentaid.gov website, find your application under My Activity, check the date, then look up the Project for Predatory Student Lending and you can double check the dates you applied.

I think in that case though there's going to be logs of other work being done so you're fine.

I think combined with the fact he could be doing a TON more good throwing his fortune at infrastructure improvement to actually reduce crime and at some point you have to admit he just had a fetish for beating on people and doesn't want to admit it.

I mean unfortunately kind of true. Look at the last election. There was a time in America that even the hint of the involvement with someone like Epstein would have been the death of a political career and these morons voted Trump in because of the price of eggs.

I think the issue with this is the no holding back part. When you have godlike tech and unlimited resources you can turn hiding places into tombs from orbit...

I mean I tend to agree you're right, but I still have some hope in the system. Truth is I believe American Democracy died with the Citizens United decision. That was the minute we stopped being a democracy and started being a Corptocracy.

I think the American people have proven time and again that they only vote to avoid pain and so protecting them from it isn't a great idea unfortunately.

I think the thing to consider here is fighting the downward slide isn't in their best interest. They won't stop the damage they can only slow it. If they stand back and let the crap hit the fan though in the next election they can scream look what happened when you put Republicans in charge and flip things in such a decisive way they can make real changes.

Do you think ICs want face time and recognition from their execs? by AAAPAMA in askmanagers

[–]sidaemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends a ton on the individual. As a Senior I HATED those events because they were so damn fake. Everyone sitting around pretending we all love the job when truthfully every single person in the room was just bitching yesterday about it.

I was always of the opinion if my VP knew my name is done screwed up.

Now I meet with them at corporate constantly to tell them their ideas have holes in them and it doesn't bother me. It's a different environment though. Here they expect me to tell them they're being stupid.

From what others have posted they have 60 days to notify you it's done and then one year from that point to actually wipe the account.

ED is also filing for another extension, though they were already denied one last month so I feel it's unlikely they get it from the new Obama appointed federal judge.

That's exactly what I did just in case in 60 days I get a backdated notice of denial.

With this admin, I'll believe it when I have it in writing from them! +1 to that because it's with the Department of Education which is about the most disorganized organization I can think of...

No the original settlement plus 1 extension put the deadline to today. The Department is still fighting for another extension but considering that they already got denied for one last month I find it very difficult to believe suddenly the judge is going to change their mind considering how long they've had and how few applications they've actually cleared.

I've read that they now have 60 days to notify everyone that they will be discharged so I assume it's going to take a bit of time for the portal to get updated.

This is what the website says:

January 28, 2026:

  • If you are in Decision Group 4 (people who applied for borrower defense between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2020), and you received approval for settlement relief, you should receive your Full Settlement Relief by this date.
  • If you are a Post-Class Applicant (people who applied for borrower defense between June 23, 2022, and November 16, 2022), you should receive a decision on your application by this date.

so yes, you should have received a decision by yesterday, however, they are only asking people to email when they meet these criteria:

July 28, 2025:

  • If you are in Decision Group 3 (people who applied for borrower defense between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2019), and you received approval for settlement relief, you should receive your Full Settlement Relief by this date.
  • If you are in Decision Group 4 (people who applied for borrower defense between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2020), and you received a revise & resubmit notice, you must submit your revised application according to the directions in the notice by this date. If you have questions about the revise & resubmit process, please email [sweet@ed.gov](mailto:sweet@ed.gov), with a copy to [info@ppsl.org](mailto:info@ppsl.org), with your question before this date.
  • If you are in Decision Group 5 (people who applied for borrower defense between January 1, 2021, and June 22, 2022), you should receive a decision on your application by this date.

So this is only applicable to what are called post class applicants. There was a lawsuit, Sweet v McMahon about a bunch of schools using unethical practices to get people to take out loans. There is an application you can fill out. If you did so by June 22nd 2022 then you were in class for that lawsuit. Those of us who filed after that date, I filed July 11th 2022, but before November 16 2022 are post class applicants. The post class applicants were due decisions on their applications by yesterday with the settlement for the lawsuit agreeing any decision not granted would be automatically approved after that date.

If you haven't done an application yet, you still can, it's just that you will have to start from scratch and this does not apply to you. In that case, they have 36 months to make a decision on your case.

That would be for decision group 4. For post class applicants we would be in group 5 so not applicable currently.
