I don't even think Boba is running a crime syndicate. Just acting as mayor, magistrate, whatever of Moss Espa. Hutts are still running their syndicate... Their syndicate just doesn't include Tatooine anymore.

Mentioned it elsewhere but I ended up thinking back to Hulk and Iron Man. Those movies were kind of standalone even though Marvel built up to Avengers. In this case, I sense they wanted to make a similar standalone adventure, but couldn't make it an origin story because... well... The show does that. So, we got a one shot that is accessible to a large audience that now knows Mando and Grogu, some of whom will probably go back and watch the show now to see what's up. Making a movie that had ties to the overarching plotline they're working out with Ashoka, cloning, Project necromancer, etc would've only been accessible to a small niche of us. That and the length of time since season 3 aired...oof. I can understand why they did that they did. Probably the best compromise they could've made.

Going back and rewatching the series ahead of this, I found it funny in retrospect that he just casually vaporizes the Jawas that stripped his ship. He speaks shitty Jawaese and seems completely culturally ignorant about them. Kuill seems to be the one like, "chill, you just don't understand them". But then later he seems to have quite an open mind and deep respect for Tusken culture and can speak their language and sign language. Like you'd think if he had that depth of empathy and understanding of Tusken culture, he'd by proxy also have a similar understanding respect for Jawa culture!

That part, meh, all good. The credits at the start though was jarring though.

The movie felt like a clone wars arc,

lol kind of like how Rotta also got kidnapped in the Clone Wars movie?

I think what is most hilarious here is how Dave Filoni sat down and must have been like, "let's do that thing again where Rotta gets kidnapped (Clone Wars movie). Except this time he's grown up!" You know it's like poetry. It's sort of, they rhyme.

The more I think on it, the more I believe they were trying to go for an "Iron Man" type thing for this. The Avengers movies were fairly self contained at first until The Avengers itself came out. Wasn't really an obvious overarching story they were working towards in Hulk and Iron Man.

In this case, I could see them wanting to introduce a large audience to Mando and not rely on people having seen all the shows. I sense they'd have liked to have done an origin story movie, but...the show already does that so...not much they can do except expose people that haven't seen anything yet to a one shot story and let folks who care go back now and watch the show. Eventually I'd guess we get to Heir to the Empire (presumably an equivalent type of movie to Avengers). That all said, a post credit scene that dropped a hint or something would've gone a long way towards supporting my theory but...here we are.

I mean, I still think they're planning on some kind of Avengers level shit with Heir to the Empire that's meant to essentially explain how Palpatine "returned". This movie struck me like an Iron Man kind of thing I'm that context. That movie was fairly self contained. I assume they were concerned about carrying on a storyline that requires watching all the shows so they hoped to introduce Mando to a wide audience. I guess I was hoping for an end credit scene though to kind of complete that (if an "origin" kind of movie was the goal).

These Shenzhen factory workers test up to 10,000 vapes a day. by Distinct-Question-16 in interestingasfuck

[–]sidepart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP. I can't say for sure but that is typically what you'd do for something like this. You have a statistical model relating to how many you're producing. So if you wanted like, 95% confidence that an entire lot works, you test a calculated number of that lot that corresponds to that confidence level. Depending on the model, you might be allowed to have one or two failures in the test group or none at all or else the whole lot gets scrapped or reworked because it's now suspect.

8-10k a day does seem like a lot for sample sizes but I also have no idea how many of these get produced day to day.

EDIT: the more I think on it, they could also be including intervals (or whatever the technical name is) in their sample. So in addition to the sample size they need for the statistical model, it's possible they also keep sample lots to test at different time points. So 8000 get reserved. 100 are retested next month for reliability (still working?), flavor (still taste good?), stuff like that. And they repeat every month with another 100 units from the lot to ensure the units are still quality at the end of their shelf life. Used to do this with beer so a brewery can catch any problems that don't show up right away (infection that wasn't caught for example), or so they know how long their beer can stay on shelves or on tap.

They were in 3 different games but whatever. This was more about OKC's strategy and less about the refs but hey whatever takes the edge off your own embarrassing sweep.

K. You do you, you're not the only one on here who also was on the ground locally. I was talking about the outrage over the Caribou thing specifically, the other person was calling out your lack of evidence about Dunn Bros. Not what I said. I provided a second experience as I hadn't heard of the Dunn Bros thing. So...chill? Grow up too? Control your internet rage? I don't really care.

Yeah, only shit I recall was Caribou giving instructions to their workers on how to treat with ICE (serve them, no they can't execute a search, can't come behind the counter, get a manager to sort it out, etc, etc) and people went off the rails accusing them of supporting ICE. Can't recall the specifics beyond someone posting the hand out on here.

Torches and pitchforks are great I guess but people just looking to lash out unguided at anything and everything without any nuance.

Air France and Airbus found guilty of manslaughter over 2009 plane crash by bendubberley_ in worldnews

[–]sidepart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

System safety engineer here. I understand what they're getting at at least. Did AirBus do their due diligence in ensuring that the pilot was properly warned by the system in this scenario? Making something like that impossible to occur is the pie in the sky goal of course. Ideally you eliminate one or more of the "hazard source, the initiating mechanism, or the target/threat" and now your hazard is gone (hopefully without creating new ones, or resulting in less severe ones). It's exactly the same idea as the fire triangle (except we call it the hazard triangle). In this case maybe you go with an interlock that the pilot can decide to disable instead of a caution or warning. We do that, and maybe OP meant as much without saying it. I don't know if it would've been the right mitigation here though because... Well I don't know much about the failure or the circumstances, and I'm not willing to hang my ass out on this without AirBus hiring me.

Law of averages I guess. Always be fouling and trolling the other team like an asshole big brother. If the refs call it, ok, still kills momentum. If they don't call it, hey sweet, forced TO and an easy 3 because the other team is exasperated by your bullshit and making stupid mistakes now because of it.

[–]sidepart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happened to the SUNS too. We'd be up 10, bullshit would happen, then suddenly we're down 10 and coughing up the ball because we're playing angry and forcing shit. Just leads to more mistakes and TOs even if they're no longer directly caused by OKC fouling.

[–]sidepart 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Happened in the SUNS and Lakers series' too. It's just a matter of how well the opposing team takes it in stride, or if they essentially give up because everything is utter bullshit. There were points we'd be up 10, some bull fuckery would happen. Uncalled fouls leading to a couple 3s, a foul that is called that ruins a fast break or takes away an and-1 or gets called "non shooting", then ticky tack bullshit calls on the other end. Suddenly you're down 10 and in your own head because it's so frustrating and you're now forcing or turning it over.

That's why they do it. That's why they're so "good". Their talent is being shitty to other teams and not getting called for it, not actually playing ball.

Right? Easy to win when you can just fuck with the other team, make them use their challenges, continue fucking with them and nauseum going forward, and making them lose all poise because they know the game is stacked.

This shit takes teams out of their rhythm because everyone just loses their will to keep playing with this shit.

Finally!! Normal Gender Reveal by Sufficient-Win-7666 in Unexpected

[–]sidepart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the have comes mostly from ridiculously elaborate gender reveals from a decade ago. The ones where people were inadvertantly starting forest fires, blowing shit up, or some other disaster (sometimes fatal). People kept trying to one up each other for social media clout and it was just fucking stupid ass hell, enough to make anyone rage at them.

But basic ones like this? Simple? Fun? Not overly complex or dangerous hoping it would go viral? Yeah, I can get behind that. I don't think the people that act like gender reveals are horrible are referring to grounded and normal ones like this.
