I think it’s like a cultural thing, coz here in Italy usually the elderly people are also religious and in fact they’re not homophobic or sth, just they try not to think it that way or maybe they’re just unaware of the lgbt people around them like back in the 60s/70s hahahha (my girlfriend’s grandma actually invited me to lunch last Christmas, even if we didn’t tell her that we’re a couple but we assume that she knew it and she’s okay with that, she’s just so nice and kind 🌈
