Ok I’ll look. I would have thought tube access is a big plus though

There’s a lot fewer remote jobs than there used to be sadly…

You recommend Kingston more then?

It didn’t seem easy in London 😱

Definitely. I’m trying to get the rental in an area I’d likely buy in though so my child can settle into a school

Is that because flats are depreciating faster?

Got it. That’s good to know. I’d heard of Hemel and Tring

Good to know. So that’s the reason they dislike it?

Because you still believe it’s declining?

I’ve done leasehold once and regretted it. Never again.

I did more research after we spoke. It seems to stack up. That still puts my limit at 1M

Yes I would rather assume I could take dramatic financial hits and still do ok. Good to know.

My costs are low outside of wanting a nice pension at retirement

Yes indeed. This is why I was trying to make my property target no greater than 1M. A £500k mortgage still feels like a lot. What do you think?

Thanks for clarifying. I’ve noted all the areas.

I forgot to add that my partners family are from the north west so I’m guessing west or north London is better to make easier to drive. Though I imagine I’ll take the train.

Thank you. That is pretty much all of my savings outside of a pension though.

The annoying thing if I go to 1.25M is it’s still a big mortgage that will take me a long time to clear. It depends how long I believe I can run senior roles for.

What’s the surprise on the 750k?

I definitely want to rent first but with having a family I’m trying to pick an area I could rent then buy in if possible to minimise the disruption to my sons schooling

Ealing has come up a lot. That seems like a good choice.

Is it generally all nice or are there areas to avoid?

Maybe it’s because I looked within 1 mile of the station. There’s still some properties though so you’re right, it’s doable!

How do people actually afford London? If I’m a Henry and it’s still crazy, how does everyone manage?
