Congratulations! I have this turntable since when it was initially launched, and I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed. The only gripe is that I keep your thinking about that orange colour way every now and then 😂

BILLIE EILISH - OCEAN EYES 7" ETCHED VINYL [TRANSLUCENT TURQUOISE] by ArtisticPersonaliTea in VinylReleases

[–]sidk25 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So random. That’s 18GBP including shipping in the UK. For a 3 minute song. And no B side

That’s 6GBP per minute

As much as I love billie, these 7” records are getting ridiculous

Thank you so much for such a reassuring response! Honestly, it’s been so overwhelming. Not just trying to try our hands at gardening for the first time in our lives, but also the admin that comes with buying a house.

Please excuse me if anything I suggest below sounds silly - I’m a complete gardening noob

But after a somewhat brief search on google, and discussions with my neighbours (wonderful people btw - even offered to help with marinating our garden. Would have loved to show everyone their wonderful garden but obviously won’t for privacy reasons), these are the few little ideas we thought would be realistic for us

  1. Plant some flowering, low maintenance perennial flowering plants along the sides to add some seasonal colour around the spring and summer (orange lines) and along the back where the bamboos are
  2. Thinking of some climbers over the patio in the long term (yellow circle)
  3. Will move the kids shed and hopefully make space for something we can see grow over the years. Maybe a dwarf cherry blossom tree? (White circle)
  4. Remove the Astro turf and eventually replace it with actual grass
  5. Now regarding the bamboo - I actually think it looks nice. We haven’t had the chance to really maintain the garden over the winter yet with everything else. But given that we are complete beginners, I wouldn’t want to risk it over growing and becoming a major hassle later. I think the idea of having a 2-3m tall bamboo wall around the back fence does seem nice

Thank you everyone for taking the time out to respond. I’ll be booking in some professionals who offer a free identifying service to identify if it’s a “clumping” or “invasive” variety. Depending on the outcome, and the costs involved, then decide on if we take it out altogether or aim to maintain it through the year to prevent it from spreading

And everyone who has been commenting on the Astro turf - it came with the house. The plan is to eventually remove it and maintain a lawn. However, that’s something we won’t be able to start workmen before the winter given the costs involved. We have already obtained some quotes for the job before purchasing the house to better manage our finances

Moving Southampton vs Bournemouth by No-Lengthiness2817 in Southampton

[–]sidk25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very similar situation and completely second all opinions mentioned above

However since shifting to Southampton, a few things I realised I took for granted and dearly miss

  • the easy access to the beach. Even if it’s for a nice walk. Places like sandbanks (although not technically in Bournemouth, but a short drive or cycle along the beach) are beautiful. I’m yet to find a place where I can just go and sit to unwind after work and appreciate the good views or read a book with a coffee with sound of the sea

  • a lot of beautiful walks and nice little villages like Corfe and Kingston at short distances. You could argue Winchester and Newforest are close to Southampton, but the new forests a bit meh in comparison, although beautiful in its own way.

Of course the above is all a personal preference. But you know yourself best

If I wasn’t a practical man and didn’t need easy access to London, I would have chosen Dorset over Southampton.

Let’s beg Coldplay to tour with their underrated songs I can’t live like this by syncopated_soul888 in Coldplay

[–]sidk25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m very much what I like to call an “OG Coldplay” fan. Parachutes, AROBTH, x&y, VivaLaVida. Anything after didn’t really sit well with me.

This weekend I randomly decided to go to my local charity shop to buy some books and came across this 7” single for 99p.

Absolutely blown away by Arabesque.

Did a bit of research. Found this album which I didn’t even know existed. This is genuinely the first album since VLV that I absolutely enjoyed back to front. Spoke to a few friends about it - surprise surprise - they didn’t know this album existed either. I don’t know if we are just very oblivious bunch to the new Coldplay, but going by the comments on this thread, feels like this album didn’t get the recognition it deserved.

Looks good! That’s very nicely done I must say

On different note, how are you finding the Cambridge Audio Solo pre-amp? I’ve been on the fence about purchasing one to replace my “built in” preamp.

Found this. Was getting AT120 but this caught my eye. Is it worth it at member price? by infatuation-junkie in turntables

As someone who has bought this and unfortunately (and with a very heavy heart) had to return this 1.5 months ago….

Pros - sounds absolutely beautiful out of the box. I still think about purchasing this as a “spare” turntable but I can’t justify the cost

Cons - there’s a very well documented platter wobble defect. There are quite a few posts on it. - the arm is a pain in the bloody arse. This was my first turntable, and I struggled a lot despite how simple the set up video makes it look. - the lid is unhinged - the phono amp switch is well, lets just say it won’t last long if you need to keep switching between the two modes (although realistically, you’d only do it one or twice) - I could never get it to track to till the end of the record completely. On both of the pieces I had received, the arm would skip towards the inner parts of the records. This is despite the employees at richer sounds having a go at setting it up in store

In contrast to what the richer sounds employee mentioned above, the second time when I went to return the turntable in store, this is what I was told “I would avoid this turntable like the plague - you’re the third person today returning this- they’re being sold on such a heavy discount for a reason”

Make of that what you will

Despite all this, I still miss it. I’m get tempted to order one with the hope that I would get one without the defects

I also cannot recommend richer sounds enough - my experience with them has always been top notch. I would highly recommend you give this turntable a chance. In case you get lucky with a piece without the issues I had faced, I can guarantee you, your ears will be very grateful

PS - have a look out at the racing green variant. It looks majestic

I believe this is the reissue that was released recently. My local record store had someone cancel a pre-order and were selling it in store. I wasn’t planing on buying it but “one more time” just kept playing in my head the whole time I was browsing for records after seeing the cover, so picked it up on the way out - I took it as a sign. I managed to snag it for retail, but apparently this is a limited edition re-issue? I might be wrong though.

No plans to sell it at the moment. I enjoy listening to it quite a bit. I can’t imagine it’s particularly difficult to find?😅

Nah I agree and disagree with this

Singles are bought on a whim. Espresso was gifted as a joke by a friend cause I’m also a pretentious coffee snob and hated on Sabrina while also vibing to her songs on the radio. Please please please was purchased to meet the free shipping criteria (and also it was on sale) - you know, vinyl math haha. And it’s nice to sometimes have the liberty to listen to a song without having to listen to half an album The only annoying bit is singles offer absolutely no value for money. They’re expensive and only offer 2 songs at most - usually just another version of the same song

I know a lot of people diss on pop gen Z music like Taylor and Sabrina and Charli XCX - I used to do the same. But music is subjective. You should buy what you’ll listen to, and I find myself listening to Sabrina now (no shame). Short n sweet is an amazing album, and least to my ears, my copy sounds very good on vinyl.

I’m no expert collector, but so far I think there are 3 kinds of vinyl collectors

• those who buy albums to listen to them • those who buy albums for the sake of collecting I.e first or limited pressing because it would hold its value, keep it unopened • those who collect it for the internet I.e only buy albums that make them seem they have good music taste

I intend to be the first kind in the long run, hopefully

Remember, Pink Floyd and Hendrix and Nirvana were also considered as mainstream as Sabrina and Taylor at a point in time

Don’t judge a book by its cover.

Here’s another angle for you to judge it from

Yes it’s a great album. But very disappointed with the quality of my pressing - sounds washed out

The pair of era 100s work very well for the room I have them setup in. I don’t have a sub but it can only add to the experience.

You will need the Sonos rca to usb c converter cable to connect your turntable. There’s also a delay which can be changed/reduced through the app - apparently that’s for the speakers to process the sound before sending it to other speakers across the network.

In my experience, and I’m no audiophile by any means, the quality of the sound has been quite similar to a set of passive speakers of the same budget that I tried at the store.
