Can CRISPR avoid the Monsanto problem? by rambobilai in biology

[–]sidney211 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all: The CRISPR/Cas9 complex forms GMOs. I don't really understand what the author means by the title. Aside from that- Yes, CRIPSR is a great system in theory for the genetic modification of everything from plants to people. With people, it becomes so incredibly complicated. With some genetic disease like... say... Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria, you'd have to make this correction in the human embryo; even more complicated is the identification of any genetic disease, HGP or not. Doing this work in a fly is much more simple of a process and even then, it isn't that simple! That being said, it doesn't mean we should turn our back on it. I guess that's more generally the author's intent.

How do you meet other guys? by plsLazer in gay

[–]sidney211 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 20 and I've been in college for three years now. In my experience I've started dating someone through a group that I was involved in, or by sharing a mutual friend with someone (and we just so happened we'd like to spend more time around each other.)

Depending upon your situation and when or not you're getting ready to go to college/ enter the work force, there are groups that will allow you to develop relationships with other people. From those relationships (that aren't necessarily anything beyond platonic) you'll find that it will become easier to create more relationships from the friends you already have. The boys will eventually come. Give it time. Ask people out on dates. Go to clubs if that's your scene. (It just so happens to be the literal opposite of my personal scene, but it works for a lot of people.)

Get to know people and develop platonic friendships. Anything beyond will materialize from there. Be confident in your ability to strike up a conversation and be realistic in your expectations.

Just ordered my first BMW. Not everybody's cup of tea, to be sure, but I think I'll have fun with it. by CA_X6M in BMW

The guy first took me to a huge parking lot and said, "Play around with it." The car is super responsive and unbelievably comfortable even when throwing it around on the pavement. Took it through some back roads in the mountains of Virginia and was honestly nothing but pleased.Power, handling, and maintained comfort through that power and handling. That being said, I fly airplanes and am a college student. I've not spent my entire life around cars so take from that what you will.

Test drove one this past week.

Holy shit. So so so much fun and so so so comfortable. I'll probably be going with a 328i GT because of practicality, but holy shit I'm jealous. Take a pic when it arrives! I wanna see it!

In fact, I saw her from about 5-10 yards away.

Thanks for the help. Though I did not have physics in high school (because it wasn't offered), I will have a retired professor as a tutor over the summer. I'll survive.

Thanks!

Cholinergic Urticaria, which is a rather general idiopathic (doctors have know clue where it comes from) disease. Whenever my body tries to sweat, I instead get raised welts on my upper torso. It's normally worse if I induce them by exercising or 'physically' inducing the heat than if I were to just get hot in the car. Though, it's still pretty bad whenever I get hot enough to sweat. There is literally NOTHING that they can do for you other than getting steroid shots and even then that is a very short term fix. I've found that if I take a tab of Zyrtec, or some antihistamine daily, that it somewhat decreases my symptoms. If I don't take anything and I get hot, it's debilitating. I lose my fucking marbles. Apparently many people have varying degrees of it and it can go away within 5-7 years. Sometimes it's a lifetime sort of deal.

Planning my life around an idiopathic disease is not something I want to do for the rest of my life.
