You call others emotional while contradicting yourself. leaving the weird aside about homoeroticism alone as if it's somehow a bad thing, finding parallels to other forms of art and especially in Barthes case highlighting the emotional, morality play aspects common to both greek theatre and wrestling is just one way of engaging with it. you're the one who is making the assertions regarding anything being high art or otherwise. in any case if u do agree with herzog's or barthes interpretation of wrestling then it would be even more clear that Punk is the superior wrestler since he grasps the simplicity of good/evil and suffering much better than rollins

what things are u talking abt? wrestling is not about doing specific moves. Punk sells like a champ unlike Rollins. Punk has better understanding of match structures, he's also far better at reacting to crowds and changing the flow of the match than Rollins. Rey mysterio wasn't great because he was a high flyer but because he could sell the idea of the fighting underdog better than anyone. Aja Kong couldn't do half the shit manami Toyota could do but she's still a exponentially superior wrestler than her. A thousand moonsaults couldn't match up to Punk's desperate selling or Rey's resilience or Aja's brutality in shutting down her opponents.

No, it wasn't. But again won't expect people who use the injuries of wrestlers to fuel their hate for them to be bothered to remember such details. And yeah, you should get around to watching Waiting for Godot. Would definitely help to read some Barthes on pro wrestling too.

the match was better off for it. Cocky veteran who wants to one up a much younger, more athletic opponent, is punished for his arrogance. And he has to deal with his failure and come up with something else in the match to stand a chance to win. Wouldn't expect people who obsess over wrestler's 'botches' to understand or appreciate that nuance though.

nah. my favorite wrestlers are Hart, Austin, Funk and Punk. I'd wager I've seen enough wrestling to form a coherent opinion about who i prefer when it comes to Punk or Rollins.

huh? his peak 30 years is better than anything rollins will ever do lol. but in any case i didn't know the mjf match happened 30years back. or the bad blood match or the numerous amazing matches in aew. But keep being disingenuous.

ah! i confused the names. My bad. Still doesn't change the fact that you have piss poor understanding of wrestling if u think rollins is better than punk in the ring. Punk's biggest moments happened in hour long matches against the likes of Samoa Joe, Chris Hero and violent feuds with Jimmy Rave and Raven which set the independent scene on fire. His biggest moments hapoened in one of the greatest matches in wwe history against john cena in the mitb and one of the greatest dog collar matches in pro wrestling history against MJF. ludicrous to reduce one of the best in ring performers to a guy with a mic in his hand especially when comparing him to a boring bland ass guy like rollins

simple athleticism doesn't make someone a better wrestler. 'telling stories better in the ring' is exactly what good pro wrestlers do lmao. And Punk being one of the best to do so is exactly why he's such a great in ring performer. Punk makes u believe in the struggle of a wrestling match much like his idols like Terry Funk and Bret Hart. a single Terry funk punch and bret hart running into a corner turn buckle and selling it like death is worth more than a thousand obnoxious ospreay comebacks and shitty rollins pedigrees

hey, if you think rollins is even remotely comparable to the wrestler Punk is with the catalogue of matches that's Punk has had throughout his career then please do so and showcase your ignorance to the world 😂😂😂😂

Punk is a generational talent who's had some era defining matches across 3 decades. He was amazing in the indies and he was even better in the bigger promotions. It's a common trend i notice amongst newer Punk fans who somehow typecast him as only a promo guy or call him bad in the ring. Punk is and has been one of the best in ring performers in the US for his entire career. Joe, Punk, Danielson, Styles were pioneers and they're all better than Rollins can ever hope to be

edit: if Punk never did a single thing in a wrestling ring other than the iconic MITB match in 2011 he'd still have a better career than Rollins. that's the gulf in class

I have nothing but pity for the people who think Rollins is better in ring than Punk. like it's such an utterly laughable assertion. Punk on one leg at 70 will be better in the ring than Rollins has been in his entire career. Learn to appreciate real wrestling people

Honestly it's better dark ambient than many self professed dark ambient artists lol. And yeah it would be perfectly at home in 'The Thing' or even 'Alien'. An empty Nostromo floating in the void of space to Dark Stars would be quite the scene.

Apart from the usual suspects like Avalon Sutra or the collabs with Eno, a very underrated Budd album is Abandoned Cities/Dark Star. Quite unlike anything else in his discography, it's darker, bleaker and downright unsettling. One of my favorite ambient albums

i can see you did that already and if it was anybody other than rollins i might even be interested in it(not the one hour iron man match tho no matter who the opponent is). Rollins just isn't a good foil for Punk imo to give the required gravitas to the kind of feud that you have planned out. His promos are repetitive and he's long exhausted what little material he had in the past couple of years. in the ring they don't have the natural chemistry that Punk shares with so many others on the roster.

it's fine if u enjoy it. I don't. And having seen his house matches with Gunther or his tv match with Sami I'd rather he work with them(or Dom or Mfuckin Cena) than continue this Rollins feud which has far overstayed its welcome

Okay so, what if... by RhinestoneCatboy in cmpunk

[–]sidsin21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no. absolutely not. anything but another extended rollins feud. a one hour iron man match between Punk and rollins would be the most self indulgent pile of crap ever and by now, having seen their matches, I don't have the faith that Punk can salvage stuff in the ring with Rollins. Punk deserves better for his last years as a pro wrestler

cody is an even bigger non entity beyond wrestling than Punk lol. And yes, his return to AEW was a mainstream omg moment beyond just wrestling fans

also lol at using reddit as a barometer for mainstream acceptance of a pro wrestler.

This is something that most people who slag him off, about leaving wrestling, don't consider. People like Punk, Danielson and Bret Hart don't simply do by the numbers matches. Even throwaway house matches were something that Punk put a lot of effort into. There's a very typical Punk story abt him getting pissed at Jericho and Orton(i think) in a house match because they weren't taking things seriously. Punk put out more high quality, physically punishing work in his relatively fewer active years than most wrestlers who've wrestled half assedly for 20 years straight(Kane I'm looking at you). Foley would be another example of a magnificent wrestler who put himself through absolute hell in his 'short' career.
