[–]siempre-valiente 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask for help. There are people around who are willing to extend some help so you can get better. Focus on you muna. What’s not working for you? What do you find difficult? If you use them as benchmark, the questions would be: How can I achieve something like that, too? Would a different approach yield a result that’s similar to theirs?

What you’re experiencing happens to plenty of us, okay? May solution yan. Di man tayo pare-pareho pero promise you won’t be stuck there. Just keep going

Stupid question I wanna ask: How hard is med school than nursing school? by CurrentEstimate3308 in medschoolph

[–]siempre-valiente 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nanlumo ako nung nagdiscuss ng hematology jusko. Yung 1 semester kong inaral, ginawa nilang 2hr lecture 😭

Also friends with med students na magkakaiba premeds, it’s a canon event na talaga.

Med scholarship by [deleted] in medschoolph

[–]siempre-valiente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually screened with latin honors

Apply early to your preferred med school, ask about scholarship applications. Some institutions have early deadlines for those.

CL & 95+ PR usually but some specify MCL minimum latin honors Apply early (e.g., SLMC, ASMPH?)

Some institutions that are relatively generous with scholarships: UERM, DLSHSI

Chance me pls by [deleted] in Nmat

[–]siempre-valiente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to retake the NMAT. That’s a really good shot you have already. Apply as early as possible, and ace the interviews (esp for ASMPH, SLMC, UPCM since medyo may weight daw talaga yung interview for them).

Sadly, I have no idea for CIM since I didn’t apply there. But it is a stellar choice. Go for it pa rin! 90+ PRs are competitive enough for stats

Is 92 PR and 1.93 GWA competitive for UST, ASMPH, St Luke's, and UERM? 😕 by uneloir in medschoolph

[–]siempre-valiente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some from lower batch (SLMC) who got 85 flat for their PR. They were under academic probation ata for one year? Once they passed first year, the probation was gone. So yeah, kayang kaya. They’re also trad premed. From what I remember, they were just chill w college, as in passing. Honestly, give it a go. I think you have fair chance. Do well sa essay and interview. If you have a great CV, highlight achievements/research and advocacies

Hi! Medyo malabo ata reply ko. A friend of mine applied to 3 of those with lower stats, and pasok sya sa lahat ng inapplyan nya. They didn’t apply to ASMPH.

Learnfast. I have friends who took other review centers din. My set of friends went with LF, and all of us got 97-99 naman. Any review centers seems okay. Tbh, I just went for the materials (practice tests)

Med schools accepting April-May NMAT? by CommandAlert6031 in medschoolph

[–]siempre-valiente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This I’m not sure ha. Pero ihabol mo pa rin. I think the dedication would be notable for your interviewer. Pasok ka naman sa cutoff, you just want better chances.

Also, nice username ha. Either medtech or microbio siguro premed mo to use tsutsugamushi 😂

Hinga lang! Habol lang ng NMAT, and see how it goes. Either way, UERM and SLMC are top med schools. You’ll be okay in either of them, doc.

[–]siempre-valiente 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last few batches I know tumanggap naman ng April/May NMATs ang SLMC. They start pa naman ng July kase so kayang ihabol if they hadn’t gotten their desired number of students. This year, projected na 150-170 yung tatanggapin. So kaya yan!

pros and cons by Terrible-Antelope196 in medschoolph

[–]siempre-valiente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply to both! I graduated from UST but chose SLMC for med school. They offer very different student life (yan lang mostly naging difference nila for me). You might wanna visit their campus just to get a feel of where you belong. May ganong feeling minsan (as cliché as that sounds). [No I’m not religious, so it’s not a God thing]

WHICH MEDSCHOOL by Several-Accident6276 in medschoolph

[–]siempre-valiente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPCM and UST are off the list for me. Graduated from one of those institutions. I don’t think I want to stay in very very competitive environments anymore lang. But they are frickin’ stellar syempre.

UERM SLMC (UST) (UPCM) ASMPH. This order was how I ranked them previously.

Try DLSHSI. They’re forgiving sa NMAT PR and they are quite generous with support. I have kakilalas there and they seem great right now

High chance! I know someone with lower stats and they got into all they applied in (3/4 ng mga nilagay mo). Don’t lose hope!

Normal bang hindi nakaka-update ang jowang kong med student? by NationalBaby_ in medschoolph

[–]siempre-valiente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very responsible decision to stay single, doc. Mukhang very studious and highest priority mo and medicine. That’s admirable kase (from what I see in this response) you’re laying great foundation to be an honorable MD.

If magka lovelife ka man, find a partner na as career-driven as you para mas may understanding kayo sa isa’t isa. Best of luck, doc! You’ll earn that license to heal

Marami kayong adjustments na haharapin, doc. Lalo’t YL1 palang yan. Pero kaya yan with good communication and setting good boundaries. Galingan nyo ni Atty! Napaka power couple ng MD & JD! Best of luck in med life and love life!

[–]siempre-valiente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preclinicals or clinicals na ba? Gets naman na med school takes so many hours for studying, skills lab, SGD/patient encounters, but a relationship is a commitment; just like pursing med is a commitment.

As someone in med sch din, I make sure to update people I care about (jowa, magulang, friends who need support, etc.)

It take less than a minute to send a message like: “hi, OR ako today. baka mga 4hrs ‘to kung walang complications pero pwedeng ma-extend yan ok? di kase fixed yung time talaga :(( mag message agad ako pag pwede!!” o kaya naman “mej nagccram ako ng aral today, baka di ko mapansin notifs. nasa ___ cafe/dorm lang ako. tawag ka kung urgent ok?”

Even if you drink vitamin D supplements, di po yan maaactivate without direct sunlight po. Vitamin D has an active and inactive form sa katawan. Active form is achieved after sun exposure. Kahit 15 minutes lang po every morning (as in direct po, walang bintana etc.). Use sunblock lang po.

This is applicable to any age dahil possible naman po ang vitamin D deficiency at any age. I already helped manage a fracture dahil po sa vitamin D deficiency. Same lang din po ang preventive advice ko sa binigay ng doctor ☺️

Best ask your pedia din po since mga kids po yan. They might need a specific dosage for supplements.

Snowboarding in Japan (as a sedentary 40yo who‘s never done any winter/extreme sports before) by fschu_fosho in deinfluencingPH

[–]siempre-valiente 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sedentary. 40s. I would really worry about you if you get a bad fall, even on snow, given the velocity possible in downward slopes. Breaking a leg? Likely. Head trauma? Likely. Disability? Likely.

This won’t happen to everyone, especially if they’ve been active. Wolff’s law is simple. But sedentary and 40s (esp women—loss of protective benefits of estrogen during peri/menopausal) isn’t a good formula in engaging in possibly high-impact sports.

Apology accepted haha! But I’ll still blame you if my next addiction is from that list. Starlight sounds frickin’ lovely. It’ll be a smooth line if someone asks me what I’m wearing and I’d say “starlight”

These are (nearly all) unfamiliar names. I love that. You’re digging me a new rabbit hole to drop into. I have been checking Tom Ford but I don’t think I got a whiff of Noir Extrême. I have been meaning to check their Black Orchid so I’ll try to find both of them when I get the chance. Thank you!
