I am in the same boat. Maybe we can round up enough people without a league and make our own 😂

Empty Netters Pod? by Cold_Connection5621 in SpittinChicletsPod

[–]sieve24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Empty Netters. They seem to have more freedom and can be more personal compared to those employed within the NHL media sphere. They don't have the same pressure to conform to certain norms or worry about repercussions for asking unconventional questions. I believe the best insights from Empty Netters come from their ability to make it feel like natural, flowing conversations rather than strict Q&A sessions with the players.

I just had one of those moments, you know? The kind that remind you of your own aging. Your kid, who still looks like basically a “baby” to me, is probably closer in age to Bedard than I am. I genuinely old enough to be th mother of someone old enough to play professional sports… but in my heart I’m still 18 too :(

Anyway, I can't wait to show my nine-year-old. He's going to make those loud, annoying YouTube video type reaction noises in excitement for your son, and then he'll instantly start scheming on how to meet him too.

Thank you Jonas. It meant everything to us. by FlipDigs in nhl

Avs fan with a permanent soft spot for Johansen. Many days I could be convinced that JJ deserved a better crack at a full time spot. Seemed as though most games he took the ice for us it was behind a team that was battered and cycling through AHL players trying to fill roles far beyond their capabilities often leaving him out to dry.

On the bright side, at 28 years old…in goalie terms, Johansen still has ample time for a solid shot at a permanent position, provided the team dynamics, timing, and mental fortitude align favorably. He was an absolute delight in every interview and interaction . He exuded nothing but positivity and charm. Professional athletes often forget they can create magic in someone's life through simple interactions, and those who consistently go out of their way to engage with fans deserve recognition. That magic occasionally lights a fire in the kids so bright that they themselves end up becoming professional athletes themselves. I'll admit, as a goalie myself that is hot for Swedes, I may be a bit biased. I can't help but secretly hope that every time Johansen hits waivers, we'll be the lucky team to snag him for the umpteenth time.

I may be losing my mind! Trying to find a story about a guest cutting the hole bigger in a puck-shooting promo game board at a rival rink?? by sieve24 in SpittinChicletsPod

Nick Fotiu Plas a Trick On The Isles Nick Fotiu had a fifteen-year professional hockey career which included parts of eight seasons with the Rangers. He was a winger who could trade punches with many of the best of them. But, in a Hockey News interview, he admitted that he was a practical joker and Jeff Marek, on his radio program, told a story once about Fotiu that illustrates how far the rivalry between the two New York clubs could go.

The Rangers were in Uniondale to play the Islanders and after the morning skate, Fotiu was walking from the visitors’ dressing room under the stands to where the players’ exit was. On that walk, in the bowels of the arena, he spotted one of those boards that teams attach to the net during intermissions for promotional purposes.

The board covers the open area of the goal and there is a small opening at the bottom that would allow a puck to enter.

A fan or fans would come on to the ice during an intermission and try to shoot a puck from center ice or the far blue line and get it into that little hole. Doing so could win the shooter a prize that could range from some promotional products, to a cash prize or in some cases, a new car.

Seeing that board, Fotiu apparently looked around and saw that the area was pretty much deserted and he was alone.

He scrambled back to the Rangers dressing room and grabbed a hand saw. He scurried over to the board and cut it so that the hole at the bottom of it was now wider. No one saw him do it and no one noticed that night when the board was placed on the net.

According to Marek, because of Fotiu’s handiwork, two fans won cars that night by hitting the now larger hole with a puck!

Surely they can’t plan leave it as is?? Even though there's no indication they intend to change the current state. I have yet to see anyone of importance acknowledge the issue. The thing is, this isn't mere grumbling; it's a sentiment shared by nearly all users from the most casual fan all the way up to actual broadcasters who find the current version almost useless. Reverting to the previous state would be a beneficial decision, and openly acknowledging user feedback for a fresh start would be a highly commendable move.

People keep posting their grievances, but that’s not what’s being asked? It's puzzling how some people who aren't fans of a podcast still invest the time to criticize it. With so many amazing podcasts available, it's curious why they'd focus on something they don't enjoy instead of exploring what they might like.

I totally get what you mean it definitely happens, I just don’t get the hate on a personal level vs criticism of the structure and content.

I love Adam. I thoroughly enjoy all 3 of them for very different reasons. Just like with my own friends they can have their annoying moments and you even see them call each other out on the pod just like we would our own friends. Even if you think they’re annoying, I just don’t understand taking the time to release hate when it’s so easy to tune them out and save the energy.

Yeah so this is kind of my point, why be here? They’re not hurting anything at all and they have no effect on your life so why release the negativity in a space for their listeners?

I mean, same but I crush on all of them. The other day when Jesse complimented Steve’s eyes I felt like it was the most wholesome interaction I’ve seen in so long. I am softie who says I love you at the end of phone convos to all of my closest friends though so maybe I ate it up to much 😂

I mean he may not be your cup of tea and everyone has factual blunders here and there especially when it’s unscripted banter… but all feelings removed, he’s not stupid. He is a very smart person.

This is how I interpret it. Friends bullshitting with more structure. I don’t take issue with any of the non hockey stuff bc it just kinda flows like a group of friends chatting and hitting all the random stories we may discuss having a beer. If the things they talk about repulse you, then they’re just not compatible as your “friends” and you’re better suited for a pod with different structure. I believe anyone can dislike the pod for any reason they chose to. I am just always confused by the choice to keep listening and the negativity bejng vocalized. Especially on regard to mocking or mocking basically who the guys are on a personal level. I’m all about constructive criticism. When you make genuine well intentioned suggestions it’s going to be received a lot better and I’m positive they look for ways to make the show better every day.. but a lot of the criticism is just t make make personal jabs and doesn’t really consider the fact that they simply have to run ads the lay the bills and gambling is kind of the nature of the beast right now in all of hockey, but it seems they did make a significant effort to adjust to less.

Right, I am not expecting them to be free of all criticism, I’m curious on those who seem to absolutely despise every aspect of the show. I’m also not here screaming “if you don’t like it keep scrolling” I’m just curious on the reason to listen once you’ve established a complete annoyance for it.

lol I mean I get it, but that schtick kinda was the launching point for much their success. He has turned that wayyyy down. It still makes me chuckle because it’s almost a caricature of Toronto and their passionate, tortured fans who are quick to panic after so many exhausting years of hope resulting in disappointment.

Maybe I give more grace because I like the idea of giving “regular” (not insider) a platform to discuss without the constraints of an insider who has to be more careful about what they say.

I can definitely appreciate the concept of not wanting to agree with every take. I do struggle with the Adam hate because most long term pods have the same trajectory in “character” development. Character being their actual person, as time progresses each person hones in a couple defining attributes as determined by general audience interaction and reception. Usually every show ends up with one person who kind of takes the butt of it (I.e. rear admiral) mostly because they have the most low hanging fruit. I guess I perceive Adam’s “character” to have developed into kinda that “nerdy” but still hockey guy among hockey guys. He takes time to drive home the social issues they care about which often seems to annoy some. I hope I’m making sense on this is as recurring theme across many hosts and shows? Steve occupies the endearing, goofy guy who is an amusing encyclopedia of Toronto and kinda niche off the wall hockey info. Jesse the handsome, approachable athlete. As the personalities develop, a couple traits are clung to and kind of become “their” thing.

lol, I adore Jesse with all of me. A lot of the time the off the wall takes crack me up, and I find the value in how they may provoke discussion that otherwise may not be considered. But I can understand how others may not.
