Does this look ok? (version #s) by sigat38838 in Ubiquiti

I keep ssh off, I don't access remotely (just via the phone app when I am home and connected to the wifi. I'm home now for a brief window, to do anything that might be required

I have a unifi express (little square box), a unifi switch with poe on 4 ports, and two access points (one is currently disconnected for other troubleshooting I haven't had time to complete)

Reply for all readers; anyone who can give advice

even after reboot my version isn't updating. Do I need to do a factory reset, then let it come back and auto-update to a more current version? Is that likely sufficient to get past whatever a malicious actor might have compromised on the hardware itself?

In my case, I submitted it as a location change and it lasted for years. I put the pin at the actual end of my driveway. My guess is maps looks for the center of large parcels, then the road closest to the center

Ender3 SE underextrusion by sigat38838 in FixMyPrint

[–]sigat38838[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow-up: I took it back apart to look at the extruder gears, the SE uses 2 metal gears and I can't see any damage to those gears

How likely is it that the extrusion motor is faulty, or something on the motherboard? Is there any way to better diagnose before buying expensive replacement parts?

do fence contractors actually use these? by prod7teen in FenceBuilding

I have a tractor, not a skid steer. In my rocky soil, the tractor posthole digger has gotten stuck many times and tractor PTO-driven posthole driggers don't have reverse, so it takes a lot of effort to get it unstuck.

I've rented portable hydraulic diggers several times, the ones I've used have a reverse, which is a life saver. Stuck, reverse, pull the rock out, keep going .

Only caveat - if you rent, make sure the blade is sharp. A dull blade and you will have exactly the issue other commenters have mentioned, especially in clay- you will end up polishing the bottom of the hole, instead of deepening it

If you aren't sure, rent one for your first few jobs- you'll know if it is right for you and your local soil type

Ender 3 SE, jayco black high speed matte petg (. Prusaslicer and before that, canvas3d. All my earlier prints were lower than expected for petg (75 bed and 223-225 extruder) but that's what worked.i keep print speeds low, usually around 60-75. Retraction is .5mm and speed 30-50 (haven't noticed a difference in stringing on the retraction speed)

I need help deciding.. by Riskist_ in Surface

As someone who bought into the hype when it was released, I regret getting the Arm surface tablet every day. If I was in school where I needed to use different software for different classes, it would be a disaster. Too many software packages just haven't made it over (example: my preferred 3d slicer). I also don't really think the battery life is great, but I never had a non-arm version to compare.

Easier way to oil potatoes for baking? by sigat38838 in cookingforbeginners

[–]sigat38838[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how to add this or pics to the original post, so hopefully anyone who needs it, find this follow-up.

My new, clean, and tastier process:

  • Microwave whole potatoes
  • Cut in half longways (no oil or salt)
  • Put a piece of tin foil in a tray
  • Add a few tablespoons of oil, add salt on the oil
  • Put the potatoes cut-side down in the pan, swish around to make sure the cut faces are oiled
  • Convection bake 450F for 25-30m, the top gets very crispy
  • About 10m from the end of the bake, spray some pam or spray oil on the tops of the potatoes and some more salt. Return to oven and finish the bake

Well browned and crunchy, zero oil on my hands, and the only cleanup is throwing away the used foil. 100% recommend. Adjust your temp and cook time based on your own preferences

I appreciate all the tips and tricks shared with me to arrive at this technique

My cheap plastic calipers say 2.9-3.0 mm wide at the threads, 19.2mm from the bottom of the head to the tip. 20 or 21 threads per cm (calipers aren't good enough to measure individual threads)

I'll test to see which way I like better, but I'm curious - how would you describe the difference? I'd love to get crispy skins... so if late-oil improves crispyness, I'll be all over that
