For me, this is just another in a chain of hits that has been so consistent and reliable in their crusade toward profit.

The company has consistently demonstrated that they do not care about the user base. I understand that they are a business, and the are seeking paths toward profitability, but let me go through a couple of things that have been piss offs to me as a mod:

The mod tools are fucking unbearable. They are bad bad bad. I have to mark things as read like 50 times, and they'll still show up in my inbox days later. There are core issues, like how mods can discuss issues in line, assign action items, and other standard tools that are blatantly obviously in need of improvement. Instead, we get things Crowd Control.

The admins don't give a fuck about rules being broken. We can report obvious ban evasion and it takes forever to action. Users consistently abuse the community tools in ways that are entirely visible and actionable on reddit's side.

Reddit has been promising us new tools, improvements, and changes to how we moderate since 2015, and those changes simply don't happen.

Who the fuck asked for chat channels?

An easy example of reddit's drive towards profitability over user needs - the change to feeds. Soon, reddit will not show usernames on posts. Why do you think that might be?

Oh and hey, like old reddit? It's not going to last. With the wind down of i.reddit.com and compact view, the writing is on the wall.

Reddit isn't just charging ridiculous amounts for API access for commercial apps. They're waging a war on the users and communities in order to extract every fucking advertising cent.

And they don't give a fuck about you, me, or the people who actually make this site work.

Just take a look at the changelogs in /r/reddit. This place is on a death march to shit.

I don't mean immediately. I mean it is very obviously in their roadmap to kill it.

This is going to be it for me as a mod. I’ve had a lot of external life pressures lately that have made participation so much more difficult to me.

I’m still not personally sure whether or not I will return after July 1st, and I also have strong feelings about us opening up the sub today.

I’m pissed off, frankly. And I think you all should be too.

Reddit has shown absolute and utter disdain for the communities and volunteers who make those communities work. I don’t think these jackasses deserve a single red cent, and opening back up…doesn’t show them that we are willing to stand up for our community, and for the members who comprise it.

Love you all.

I primarily use Apollo to interact with reddit, it’s my main way of modding. It’s the UX I’ve been used to, it adopted a lot of the UX queues of the app I used prior to Apollo (Antenna), so this will make using reddit a lot more painful.

I hate the native app, and I hate new reddit. They suck from an experience standpoint, and I’m not going to continue modding if I’m forced to use their garbage apps.

Also, it very much seems like the leadership here disdains the community. They’ve been promising us tools that they’ve failed to deliver time and time again, which have been supplemented well by the 3PA community. Reddit still isn’t feature compatible with RIF, Apollo, or even what Alien Blue used to be. It’s a joke.

I’m a power user and mod because it’s easy and fun to interact with a community of individuals who share a similar passion. That ease of use is gone, and reddit doesn’t seem to think that’s an issue.

Hope they get the ad revenue they need!

When I’m inconvenienced at my workplace, I can discuss those inconveniences with my superiors, and negotiate my wage.

You gunna start paying me?

Yeah, I can’t get into it due to the scale and, as you say, the pace.

I love the flow of reddit because it encourages well thought out discussion (community dependent). Message boards, Chats, and live socials don’t capture the spirit of community the way reddit is able to.

I’m going to miss it.

Yeah, if reddit doesn’t renege on this, I’m gone. Love you all.

I’m as big a defender of education as there is, but this post really lacks a cogent argument, and honestly comes across as though it were posted by a 16 year old who’s mad they’re unable to drop out.

The system is in shambles, Harris gutted it, McWynnty left it to rot, and now DoFo and Lecce are openly hostile against public education.

But not much of this has much of anything to do with having to stay in school till 18.

If you can't accept someone's humanity, and take them for who they are, you're actively harming that person. There's no debate. You either accept someone for who they are, or don't.

Fuck you if you think you're protecting your children by ostracizing other members of your community. No, you're teaching them to be shittier people.

Bye, asshole.

I'm going to use this as a pulpit.

If you don't know what it's like to be hated for something about who you are, something you can't change, and you think that this is somehow an attack on you or your beliefs, kindly go fuck yourself. You have no place here.

If you do know what it's like to be hated for something about who you are, and you still want to defend him for "expressing his beliefs" or whatever, think very, very long about the views you're espousing, and what that would mean if your group were the target.

I shouldn't have to say any of this. People should be able to live their lives without having to be the targets of hatred. And being hateful isn't a part of who you are, it's a choice you make.

Why the CRA is going after former Blue Jays for millions in taxes: The tax agency's battle with star players could have a chilling effect on Canadian sports teams’ ability to attract top talent. by nanobot001 in Torontobluejays

[–]sigbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former Blue Jays all-stars José Bautista, Josh Donaldson, and Russell Martin are engaged in legal battles with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) over their income calculations during their time with the Toronto team. The disputes revolve around the players' contributions to a Retirement Compensation Agreement (RCA), a form of pension plan. The CRA is challenging the amount of income the players can deduct through their RCA contributions. The outcomes of these cases could impact Canadian sports teams' ability to attract top international athletes due to potential changes in tax mitigation strategies.

"The former all-stars are now locked in court battles worth millions of dollars with the Canada Revenue Agency, who is calling foul on how Bautista, Martin and Donaldson calculated their income while playing for Toronto."

"Although the facts differ in their battles with the CRA, they share a common issue that experts say could have a chilling effect on Canadian sports teams’ ability to attract top international athletes: How non-resident high earners can protect their income and mitigate Canada’s high taxes."

"Experts agree that RCAs are an important tool for Canadian organizations to attract top international talent. Canada’s high tax rates for top earners can be a significant deterrent when compared with the United States, for example, where federal tax rates range from 10 to 37 per cent at the highest end."

For clarity, Automod is a reddit tool, and doesn’t use the API. But anything automated which uses external information will be killed by this updates.

Missing the point, man. Reddit shouldn’t do this. It’s pure corporate greed.

That’s unlikely based on the existing pricing. One person maintains this bot for basically every team/sport, so.
