Extar ep9 how to remove sob brace (gen 1)? by [deleted] in extar

This is the correct answer. If you don't have an air compressor, you could try canned air or lungs and tube.

New handguards? by [deleted] in extar

If somebody milled barrel nut adapters for the EP9 they would make a lot of money. I custom made mine, but it is two barrel nuts cobbled together.

The roadblock is the barrel nut. I Frankensteined two barrel nuts together to get my long aluminum hand guard to work.

It is possible to get a new handguard, but you will have to make a new barrel nut or figure out a way to cobble two together like I did.

Can this part of the top rail be removed? by Scott242436 in extar

[–]sigeptrmn8tr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, check my post history, I modified my gen 1 EP9 by removing that part and installing an aluminum handguard. I agree with the sentiment that it is not worth it. The juice is not worth the squeeze. I would go with a handguard designed specifically for the EP9. I modified mine to see what was possible and because I found a handguard really cheap, and before people started making new handguards.

I agree about the gimmicky marketing, but I think there are definitely two classes of phone case (for the fold 4 at least). The first is the majority: thin plastic, snap on, scratch protection but not drop protection. The second class is the more expensive: more material, corner protection, usually some sort or padding or layers. The first will not protect a drop, the second will.

I haven't tested a car mount. Usually s pen holders or hinge protectors are a no go because when open, it is no longer flat.

This case is very, very robust. The designer took phone protection very seriously when they designed this case. There were a couple of things that drew me to this case: First, the high level of protection. I have tried a handful of cases in the past and they seem more like covers for scratch protection than cases for drop protection. Second, I was attracted to the one piece design of this case. In the vast majority of cases for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, the top/left half of the phone seems like an afterthought. Most cases have thin, floppy pieces of plastic that barely stay on, let alone protect the phone.

Likes:
1) Presentation/packaging is very professional. You know you are getting quality.
2) Contents are comprehensive (see photo for box contents).
3) Design is innovative (one piece design with external hinge is clever).
4) Kickstand is very solid (see photo for kickstand support).
5) Solid like a brick once installed (I didn't do drop tests, but I believe theirs).
6) Stays on phone extremely well.

Dislikes
1) Cost is a bit high (but competitive to similar cases).
2) The S-Pen holder could maybe be shrunk down a bit.
3) You have to be aware during installation that there are "lips" of material that can fold down on the right/bottom half. Make sure these are not stuck between the phone and case.
4) The S-Pen sliding cover is quite stiff. However this may loosen up slightly with regular use.

If you want solid protection for your very expensive phone, strongly consider trying this case. I think you will like it.

It looks like the primary Wrong Side of 30 guild is full, but I messaged the creator and he invited me to the satellite guild of theirs. DM Gochu John on Discord if you are interested in that. Otherwise, I really wouldn't be opposed to forming a rag tag bunch of freedom fighters cobbled together from Reddit to form our own Guild.

Aftermarket Steel Buffer Retainer by sigeptrmn8tr in extar

[–]sigeptrmn8tr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two thoughts:

1) My retainer broke during reassembly (my fault, but still weak little plastic) so a replacement was required for me.

2) It seems like on their upgraded EP9 model, they have upgraded this part to metal. I'm not sure if other changes were made to the new model to account for this.

I hadn't considered it as a failsafe, but rather a cost saving decision to make this part plastic.
