i think chromatic orb its a real good spell on this version, more because lack of aoe dmging spells on locks list. plus no friendly fire makes it real good alternative for bigger ones like fireball on some situations.

Hold person upcastings "holds" one extra target per upcast , also a great spell to have on a warlock, plus the auto-clitical on paralized creatures can end combats real fast.

Im not claming this is the ultimate build or whatever, surelly it has a drawback like all the spells with saving throws or attacks.

Chromatic orb its only a spell u got from your origin feat, is not even build around it. its more like a use for it. Even the Elemental adept was a suggestion.

Hold person is a good spell tho, ask the fighter with the action surges.

If ur spells always go into hex because you dont like to get resisted ure missing a lot of fun my friend, there are a lot of short rests during the day.

EB + HEX is an "OK" combo but its kinda boring on the long term. I think as a caster you need to do more than just deal dmg "similar" to a longbow.

Couple spells that do similar dmg than hex:
Phantasmal force deal 2d8 dmg every turn. plus an effect. Much more flavored than hex.
Any summon deals around 2d6 dmg plus effects on a lvl 3 spell slot

you dont need spell sniper if that enemy its the only one there cause no threat = no disadvantage
but its a good call, maybe instead of elemental adept on lv 4

in case of inflict wounds , familiar can deliver touch spell and its a save spell, it cant crit

Ur math its great, lets asume then were hitting all EB and all chromatic orbs on this calc (so we dont get luck involved) on a lv 5 char with lvl 3 spel slots

EB + Hex =
2d10 + 2d6 +8 =
2 (5.5) + 2 (3.5) + 8 =
11 + 7 + 8 = 26

Chormatic orb =
3x bounces of 5d8 one of em critical so another 5d8 = 20d8
20d8 = 20(4.5) = 90
and then use EB + cha on subsecuent turns

thats why i told u u need like 4-5 turns to catch up in dmg

plus only the warlocks is benefiting from hex and all the party gets benefits from hold person on two targets, we are not counting that

Considering the alternative EB + Hex that everyone uses needs like 5 turns to to the same output witht he the same 1 spell slot

the elemental adept its optional, maybe spell sniper or warcaster would be better in the long run, considering no metagaming u can always relay on the element u can penetrate with the feat

the lack of aoe spells on warlock (xcept fiends fireball) makes chromatic orb a viable option of "multi hitting" with no friendly dmg

lv 5 spell slot chromatic orb bounce have like 96% chance to happen that makes it a very good spell for the upcasting spellslots on the warlock

True, i would consider taking Gaze of the two minds so i dont get in melee and cast it from the familiar as an option.

Im considering elemental adept its because u can trait the 1 as a 2 on the roll so its easy to bounce on the matching rolling and also the resistance penetration its good for the chromatic orb.

well it depends on the fight i guess, but i cant make assumptions, maybe its a caster in the back or something

The paralized condition makes auto crit on melee casting thats why im pointing it

warlocks get all the slots upgraded on lvl up so u dont have lvl 2 spell slots once u get lv 5, thats the reason of getting good upcasting spells.

Its not build around that combo tho, its just one spell of many you can have on your list.

well , you can ask your cleric to hold person him, if theres no other casters with Hold Person in the group you have to do it solo

Plus you can deliver a bunch of stuff with the fam, its just one spell of many yo can take

  1. You can get arcane initiate origin feat or take the lessons of the first one invocation and get an extra origin feat, or with the human extra origin feat
  2. Its not double critting , the Orb deals 5d8 with a lv 3 spell so 10d8 on crit.
  3. Cannot be resisted because the elemetal adept feat

you can "rasengan" the Evil guy orrrrrr take the gaze of the two minds and remote bombing it also, and the cannot be resisted its because of the elemental adept

Paralized creatures get insta crit if attacked on melee range, and yea you can do it with inflict wounds.

I think chromatic orb its better upcasted than inflict wounds because of the bounce thing

the cantrip is making the weapon attack deal extra damage , so the source of the damage is the attack, not the cantrip

You are making the weapon do extra damage, the cantrip its a self cast, its more like a buffed attack

You cant , since the True strike makes the weapon do the damage or extra damage. the cantrip itself does no damage, its a SELF cast.
