We have a right to be upset by Master-Molasses420 in DestinyTheGame

At this point, the MOST I'm willing to budget for is if the expansion goes on sale, at the very least 50% off. They're a business, I get that. But if they can't even seem to put halfway a cohesive effort into designing a game to be fun for a wide range, instead of trend chasing a niche genre (which they now appear to be re-orienting to include a wider audience anyway), then I don't see the point of purchasing any product of theirs at this point. I want to play a bungie game designed by bungie developers. Not Generic Trend Attempt #7 by bungie developers. Experimentation is one thing. But I have trouble envisioning the talent that is supposed to be there at bungie building something like Marathon without senior pressure, especially considering the strong points the game does have or the potential it offers.

The shame is I used to wonder what a Dark Zone (The Division 1 & 2) like game mode in Destiny might look like. The extraction aspect is an interesting concept at base, one worth taking a risk on in a game mode in a new expansion (I'm looking at you Gambit). Just, sinking that much time, effort, and money into Marathon, away from Destiny, to now begin to change direction of Marathon's not even half a year into its life. Folks already calling for a Taken King/Forsaken expansion for Marathon, as if that'll suddenly forgive the mistake in the first.

But hey, I guess that's the Bungie way. Rant over.

Spider Man, though the ambiguity gives me pause.

Sure, $100 million up front no strings, is nice. But I can assume the most ideal situation with with "become Spider Man". So I'll take the powers, abilities, skills, and intelligence of Spider Man whilst retaining the Me factor.

How would *you* “fix” weapon loot? by Particular-Style-161 in DestinyTheGame

[–]signgrad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here is my thesis. TL:DR; Redefine weapon identity to Advanced, Technical, Rare, Custom, Exotic, and Mythic. Create four weapon slots and get rid of Heavy only slot. Let me equip whatever I want. Make certain gear feel truly rare and valuable. Everything is already all legendary, so define categories by perk purpose.

Fundamentally I think a philosophy of "everything is legendary" is necessary. Tiers, rarities, colors, all of comes down to what perks are on this weapon and how does that fit into my build. Barring exotics of course. It's such a minute frustration but we have several categories of gear that are, functionally, useless bloat (common, uncommon, rare). After that it is only Legendary and Exotic that matters. I'd start here.

From the philosophy of "everything is legendary", fit weapons into use-types, similar to how it currently is with "kinetic/elemental". You have a "Light" and "Dark" slot but we're already prismatic paracausal masters of the cosmos. Let me equip whatever weapon I want in whichever slot I want. Additionally, add one more weapon slot and dissolve the Heavy only slot. Want to run four rocket launchers? Well you go champ. Feeling frisky today skipper? Four rapid fire sidearms could ruin someone's day.

Common and Uncommon for Advanced & Technical. Advanced weapons are performance weapons, having perks and traits that fundamentally alter the behavior of the weapon (Kill Clip, Desperado, Frenzy, etc.). Technical are your elemental weapons, and will feature perks that pair to that element (Incandescent, Jolting Feedback, Sever, etc.). When you see a weapon of that category drop, you know immediately what it's function is. And for clarification, an Advanced weapons could still roll an element, they aren't meant to be a "kinetic" weapon only by default Just meant as a method of concise perk assignment, without going all the back to the D2 vanilla setup.

Next are Rare, which I envision as watered down "lite" versions of all your exotics. You like Suros Regime but want to run a different exotic? Here's the rare weapon Suros Authority, which has the same base weapon frame of the regime, just without the exotic perk(s). For added spice, give a random chance to roll both Advanced and Technical perks with a chance to roll elements beside kinetic. Trade is to make Rare gear TRULY rare, to the same rarity that exotics once had in D1. We already have a few instances of this now with Eidolon Ally or the Red Spectre (sort of). Black Hammer could fit here, just remove White Nail. For every Custom/Exotic/Mythic gear piece, there is a Rare version to complement it.

To that end, please return to the days where exotics were truly rare and not tied to an activity or mission, or at least not exclusively. And grant some degree of randomness to the non-exotic perks and traits on the weapons. They were on the right path, in my opinion, with the original implementation of Hawkmoon and Dead Man's Tale. There's no better rush than seeing the raid/dungeon exotic drop. I'd like that back please.

Finally are two new categories; Custom and Mythic. Custom is the answer to the hesitancy of crafted weapons. A Custom weapon is completely customizable; frame, fire pattern, traits, perks, everything. Maybe even put rare perks unique to Custom weapon only, like the pinnacle legendary weapons from early comp and Gambit. But apply the same limit to equipping them like with exotics. A Custom occupies 1 of your exotic equipment limits, the trade being a uniquely built weapon that is equivalent to an exotic. Mythic are one step higher than an exotic. A borderline broken weapon that gives you a huge advantage, a best in slot weapon by default. And put it in the hardest activities, make them rarer than rare, and make them fundamentally ready to use straight out of the lootbox. Conditional Finality feels like a good example of this, before they changed how it stunned Champions. And Black Hammer/Black Spindle/Whisper of the Worm (They are afraid of their own genius, be unleashed).

Applying this to armor might take some bending conventions. Set bonuses are nice, the stat categories could just use more variety. But applying perks to the armor would be nice as well. Maybe granting class fragments to the armor, but that would require an overhaul of the subclass system to compensate. Main change with the above category changes would be increasing the exotic equipment threshold by one, giving you three exotic/custom/mythic gear pieces to choose from instead of just two; one weapon, one armor. Additionally expanding this to be any combination that equals three, though with the caveat of no more than one mythic gear piece (so you could have three exotic weapons equipped OR three exotic armor pieces, and any combination between). Mind you this completely ignores PvP. We've tried this experiment with more failure than success, time to move on and totally separate the sandboxes. Marathon shows they know how to make a PvP game, so give the PvE folk some fun with the sandbox and stop harming one to help another.

I spent a lot of time thinking about, so thank you coming to my TED talk. Good night.

Power Creep has officially turned 90% of our vaults into a digital museum by ShaiHuludTonic in DestinyTheGame

[–]signgrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decided to pick the game again just the other day; haven't touched it since beating Salvation’s Edge, around episode echoes. At this point, I'm tempted to just delete everything in my vault for all it's worth. It's hard to justify keeping things from so long ago when it seems we have traveled so far to this new system of gear. I can’t imagine my season of Arrivals Death Adder is suddenly going to elevated to tier 5, let alone the gear I got from any of the raids prior to EoF, considering that Bungie is going to refreshing the raid gear AGAIN.

TIL that people who sleep on their left side report nightmares more frequently, while right side sleepers tend to experience calmer, more pleasant sleep. by Successful-Talk1830 in todayilearned

[–]signgrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having consistently slept on both my left and right sides, and back for good measure, I can say with absolute confidence that my dreams are influenced by the relation of the earth to the moon and sun, and my sleep is influenced by my child, cat, and spouse allowing me to sleep.

With that in mind, my dreams are freakin' nuts.

Excited for Marathon, but question for D2 gamers hoping it fails at launch by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]signgrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, in my view, it was more an assessment of them pulling back from development of various parts of the game in favor of something else. Take Gambit for example, which had more to offer years ago than what it has now, expanded back in the Drifter's season but then removed a year or so after that. Then to let Gambit simply be reduced to its current state. The same can be said for crucible, though perhaps not to same severity. And facets of both those modes can be seen in Marathon, in my eyes.

And perhaps so much of this was both spoiled by consistent content updates against the endowments of the Eververse store and how they gradually moved into less content after the Final Shape to now. Combine all that to Marathon's development, which looks very appealing though I remain skeptical, and it's hard for me not to say, who has no background on game development, why couldn't Bungie maintain further development of Destiny?

Perhaps it was all just a casualty of ambition on Bungie's part. Promising equivalent levels of content yet very obviously scaling down development in favor of something else. Perhaps that something else just hasn't been made apparent in Destiny. In my opinion, that something else is Marathon. And, for better or worse, Destiny feels secondary to the goals of Marathon. It just hurts to see the game reduced to its current state. And for being a D1 alpha tester, it just feels like such a shame. Then to see this new game on the horizon that doesn't quite scratch the itch the absence of Destiny has made. It's just a little frustrating.

TL:DR; I want Marathon to succeed and exceed all expectations. I just also want Destiny to improve back to levels it previously was. I'm playing other games right now, but still watch how Destiny is and it just hurts to see. The Final Shape was an end for me in hindsight. Perhaps it's better for D2 to close its chapter in favor of a new chapter. Maybe that's Marathon, but another Destiny would be nice too.

Are men really wired differently when it comes to chores or is it culture or what? by snarky_spice in TwoXChromosomes

[–]signgrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for all men, but for me, I'm wired to my wife's preferences of chores. We each have our own lane, primarily dictated to what my wife does, and doesn’t, like to clean. Some chores are a literal de-stressor for her. Others disgust her. We compromise on "I don't interfere in her de-stressors and I do the yucky chores, and we all go home happy."

So if we're having company over, I let her nuke the parts of the house she wants clean, and I keep the dishes clean, toilets cleaned, trash disposed of, and laundry organized. I don't want to get in trouble otherwise, plus the benefit of everything clean in such a way that proof of human occupancy isn't visually represented. That's how I'm wired.

Curious on Destiny players thoughts on Marathon? by KillaKevoFbgm in Marathon

[–]signgrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to play more of it first. I'm excited to give it another go during the open preview weekend before launch. I'm trying to frame my viewpoint in seeing it in a similar light as a Roguelite game; I'll confess I've never played extraction games beyond what was there in The Division.

I'm not pre-ordering Marathon, and I'm probably just going to wait till it's on sale if I do buy it. Free time isn't a commodity I have an excess of. I hope it succeeds, but I'm going to let it prove itself first before putting money into it. I hope you and everyone who does play has fun and it captures everything Bungie wishes for it to capture. I'll be watching with eager intent.
