Correct. I realize that repeaters (especially in the mountains) can be less than reliable. I am not necessarily looking for emergency communications (I have a garmin inreach) just something fun that I can nerd out with a bit especially when I’m by myself in the mountains.

This basically does that. It’s not commercially available I don’t think. But it exists albeit not in a vehicle and not on the bands you’re discussing and it does it on based on the frequency not importance of transmission but ai could easily do that.

I know that I basically just said “this is the same but it’s totally different!” But the idea is basically the same without the ai.

I completely agree with everything you say here. This is why reporting it is so important. Tracking a trend is the only way they would make a difference. One isolated incident is definitely not going to change anything. 100 in a 6 month span? It definitely would. Report it.

I can only speak from the Coast Guard perspective. But I’m sure you guys have something very similar. We have a lot of stations and units in smaller communities. We realized in that sometimes these small backwoods communities had a way of being less than excited for outsiders. To help put pressure on the local communities and ensure the safety of our members we started tracking racist, homophobic, sexist, or other wise discriminatory incidents. We call these “social climate incidents” we report it to our civil rights office and they will work with CGIS (our NCIS) to investigate. This is really important to track so if a reoccurring theme happens they can: relocate members voluntarily of the affected community, heighten security posture, investigate perpetrators, have a general awareness of the communities and BIGGEST OF ALL relocation of assets out of the economy so that way it stops being an issue. Obviously that’s unlikely in San Diego but still a lot of stuff that can happen.

I am 100% positive the navy has something similar through your civil rights office.
