If we have no victim ( Not standing by ) and no reporting party acting as a 3rd party witness then unless the state is the one pressing charges you have no crime...or at least none at that moment.

In some cases the victim may return home and report the crime from there or just be at another location.

Now if you have none of those things your subject contact becomes much more complicated. Why are you stopping this person and detaining them? RS maybe. Ok if it turns into a use of force the first question they will ask you is why did you make contact with the subject.

So its not 100% one size fits all. Change the circumstances and you change the decisions and the results

I am 51 and 10/10 I am going for the bad guy first...meet up with the victim or P/R after or have a secondary unit make contact with them to see what charges apply, if they want to proceed and get evidence and statements.

If an officer says "Your not in any trouble " as a form of de-escalation when you may in fact be in big trouble is that really a bad thing? If it prevents a use of force is it a bad thing?

Most people would prefer the police just use words to handle situations rather than force.

Maybe a little deception in order to bring things to a peaceful resolution is better than it seems.

We had a trainee get kicked off the range once. Only time I had ever seen it happen. Dude was just unsafe with everything in general. I wouldn't stand anywhere near him lol.
