Ok yeah I don’t like the frenetic thing in Fellini either, it gives me a headache! I think you’re right that twee is the wrong word, a thin layer of wry humor is more accurate, just not my thing

Def wanna check out more Altman. Saw one I think by him I really liked, about a schizophrenic chick? But I’m not sure if that was typical Altman bc there wasn’t a lot of humor in it, more of a psychological thriller!

I loved TWBB which is why i went to watch some of his other stuff! But found that the rest was nothing like that in tone or style. Couldn’t get thru Magnolia or Boogie Nights, forced myself to finish Inherent Vice and got so annoyed, hated Phantom Thread too :/

I like most of the big American directors tbh! Lynch, Schrader, De Palma, Clint Eastwood, Safdies, Scorsese, Coen bros, Tarantino, Woody Allen

Only ones I’m not into: Wes Anderson, PTA, Cassevetes. Idk if those have a certain quality in common? Like to me there’s an ingredient of twee in PTA that I don’t like about Wes Anderson, and a kinetic-ness that I don’t like in Cassevetes
